OK, can we get back on topic"

Seems quite fitting really, no?

What did I edit ? I am standing up for what I believe and taking a ration of crap for it all in an attempt to help a developer that I have no connection with other than being a long time customer. I get nothing out of this except the satisfaction of trying to help a developer move a great synth forward....not backward.

If you actually did have empathy and all the business acumen you claim to possess you'd understand the difference between helping someone's product and hurting it.........

Hoverland helped it and well I think you can take it from there................

It's hopeless. I think the thread should be locked and when there is some news about a new skin another thread can be opened........

Quite emotional and defensive for someone that has no relation. You don't know me well enough to pass judgement but you can definitely see in this thread alone the difference between us. As in I actually tried to work with you guys, and you/team keep self-destructing/sabotaging your PR - and now are attacking anyone that challenges your way of communicating with people.

You know what you edited/re-edited, I'll stop now as you've wasted enough time on this thread, and I've wasted enough time in photoshop and trying to do something nice for you.

Like I said you will be more humble when the day comes that you get blessed and or a project takes off on you - you'd never in a million years talk to people like this especially those trying to help not hurt (my efforts were to hurt you? xxxhrs of free work? lol I don't get it, 9K posts and this is your demeanor?).

Humbled by your passionate colors, I'm truly out now and you can have the last word - amazing metamorphosis of your personality within a few minutes - rock on Mike/Tek.

EDIT: You know what? Ask Mike for a public apology for talking to his users/designers/passionate family biz extensions/people this way re Ingo, and you also apologize - and give the kid/man more encouraging feedback (HE'S A FUKN PASSIONATE USER OF YOUR SOFTWARE, ARE YOU CRAZY?!!) to help you make more money, attract other designers, SHOW other designers that they won't get shit on if they don't submit something perfect the first (or 19th) time.

....And I'll do a few more in time.

Why not be humble and receptive you'll get such a different response. Biz ethics 101? Don't yell at customers/users? Even potential ones? Ummm.. accept free design work with grace and if you don't have the patience and time for the person be polite about it and maybe give some constructive advice on how to improve vs 'get out of here'? Learn some damage control? Some pre-emptive strategic moves on how to turn an Ingo into a powerhouse (for free at that?!~). Often times persistence trumps talent, and most importantly kill people with kindness/thank yous/etc? Totally lost and I guess I care because I made my fumbles too and can't understand how you think a business flourishes with this type of communication as it ripples through all aspects of the biz and rollout, frustrating to watch and my way to show some accountability is to try to explain it in detail. Why the self-entitlement and why so upset that I have an issue with the way he's talking to people? Social justice is loud doesn't he get it? Acts of kindness? Maybe give out xxx copies for free to get buzz going? Mabye give Ingo/Hoverland/ANY designer that submits stuff 10-20 copies to give our design buddies just for fun as the prizing is not attractive and most will do this as a challenge vs rewards and a free copy up fronts might entice them? Shall I ramble on?

I'm asking for an apology from you both to Ingo and to clear the air for others that might want to submit designs in advance and a promise that you won't shit on people for trying to help you/even be passionately involved past your understanding or patience (at least act it online you angry mofo's).

Black text on grey is not very readable. Maybe different sections (Osc, Filters) could have slighly different background colours? Colour coding is always very helpful when patching a synth.

This skin could really boost sales (while the standard skin prevented I lot of sales I'm afraid).

Finally a nice skin! Seriously, the GUI in this made me look the other way all the time, these big buttons which are only in charge of... modulation :)

It looks great now with the new blue skin on the site and I can't wait to try it!

Really, I think his personality suffers of some kind of paranoid attitude, especially when it concerns his "baby" :borg:

Now, back on topic: What happened to this?
Norbz wrote: So based on Mike's feedback and with H-man's help, we're going to pull back a bit and just get a skin ready that Mike see's as acceptable before doing anything fancy with the knobs highlights (we need MANY different types of highlight knob types with different treatments re directions/degrees.., then new knobs in the xml, then trial/error), or any other extra custom knobs/adsr/etc.
I'm just here for the popcorn now.

Short version: -- Not touching this anymore, owner has no heart.
@Norbz: I totally agree with your post. I saw that kind of attitude by Mike in the past, and always questioned myself about what happens with him. But regardless, I ask you to not give. The best "slap in the face" of the guy, and a way to teach him a lesson, is to ignore his comments, remarks, whatever, and come up with a really good skin, that fulfills what "you" (and probably me and many other users), think the product needs and deserves. Now that the synth is skinnable, you really don't need his approval, and if he makes some elements "mandatory", you may even include the original in the pack, and simply make a "Read Me" text explaining the users that those are there to make it work, but SHOULD NOT BE USED.

Sincerely, I never saw such kind of reactions from developers that have much more name that Mike (eg, U-He or Synapse, or even Cockos) regarding the skins made for their products. If you take a look ate Cockos site, you will see some really poor skins done for Reaper (which happens to have some of the best talented designers also work for it), and all of them get published in the site. Cockos apparently don't fear Reaper may be "killed" by a bad skin :hihi:, and leave the choice to their users - which is the right attitude.

BTW: While the Hoverland skin is a good skin, it is just that - a good skin. Not great, not innovative, not challenging. Just competent and good. No reason for sounding the trumpets already. If that is the best Mike aspires, his expectations are really low.

For what is a great work, look for example at what "White Tie" did for Reaper: http://www.houseofwhitetie.com/reaper/i ... erial.html.

THAT is really an innovative, challenging, great work. He went way far from the original, at the point of creating what looks like a "new" product. And a great one.

Really nice Reaper skin but I doubt that anyone would make such an effort for one single licence worth around 150 bucks.

Maybe for 10 licences, and that would be also rather cheap.

years ago some guy built a hardware controller for poly-ana that matches the GUI. i think that 'galvanised' mike's GUI psychosis in the face of so much userbase protest at its unuseable hideousness. well, you know, money talks at the end of the day and so finally now he's ready to concede to popular opinion that it desperately needs to go and he's allowing significant GUI customisation - but I think he's still got that hard-on about keeping certain layouts and interface relationships in order to cling on to the relevance of the hardware controller that was built. he's not going to officially support something that renders the controller moot, and un-take-advantage-able in terms of a bit of marketing kudos.

or maybe by just having such a heavy hand in 'restrictions' he can cling on to some kind of notion that he had a significant role in designing an actually decent and useable GUI.

/speculation

alternatively, he's just a jerk with no underlying motivation for being so.

I don't owe anybody an apology. Sorry if you guys can't take honest criticism.

ya. I think it should be easy enough to edit/tweak the colour of text on the skin to your own tastes though ? Unless skins can be 'locked' somehow ?

I think the black text could be put into another colour but for my eyes this would be a good pairing. :tu:
