Hey 'dere,

I'm looking to offload a few bits of hardware. A Sherman Filterbank and a Nord Lead 4R.

Ireland is notoriously hard to get a decent price for second hand gear. So I was thinking about Ebay. The Nord is an expensive bit of kit and would be the most expensive thing that I've ever sold on Ebay.

So I'm just wondering what's the best way to protect myself form a scam - Maybe I'm being too paranoid?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cherio!

Cheers for the advice mate... I kinda' figured ebay were not the best when it came to sellers. :(

I actually have it up on Adverts at the moment. It's up for 1050e but I might drop the price to 950e. I'll just keep it up there and see what happens.

Thanks again! :)

nonsense.

and this is proven with the price you're asking..1050euro ? ... You realise on ebay that completed listings are showing that it has sold as low as 880euro in the last few weeks. And they have to pay ebay fees. AND paypal fees.

GBP listings would be even worse once you take into account paypal's pie-in-the-sky currency exchange charges.

And you have to pay what on adverts for a listing that sells ? 3 euro or thereabouts ? if even that, since it's down to a kind of 'honour' system (you can simply withdraw the ad after it's sold, rather than declaring it sold).

if you think it's notorious in Ireland, have fun wetting your feet on ebay.

you're clearly too clueless to be making any kind of absolute declarations about what's 'notrious' or not about any market place.

anyway, as far as ebay goes, my advice would be to list it 'as is' ... don't over-state the condition of the unit. you can sell broken items on ebay, so long as they're described accurately. so be meticulous in your description, also document the synth well with photo and video evidence of it in operation, checking all functions. and finally only accept bank-transfer as a payment method. this will deter people, but it will also deter a good chunk of any potential buyers who might be in the business of making false claims against sellers - since paypal offers the most clout in terms of protecting the buyer and ultimately scalding the seller. be warned though, most people would be very very hesitant to pay by bank transfer if you don't have an impeccable feedback spanning a few years and a good selection of sold high value items.

as far as listing in Ireland goes... i've found the buyers there to be very reasonable, they're savvy - sure - butwill match the best ebay prices, and as a seller that means more money in your pocket than going through ebay - less hassle - and less risk of getting caught on the wrong side of a virtually automated ebay/paypal dispute resolution.

in fact, checking your Adverts listing...

I can see you being dismissive to a guy who offered you 800 euro.

Well, disregarding the fact that you'd be no worse off taking that offer than the guy who 'only' managed to get 880 for his through ebay recently (before ebay/paypal fees and potentially getting screwed by both in a dispute), you didn't even try to negotiate his price up a bit.

in the same position, I'd have countered with 950, pressed for 900, pushed for 875, settled for 850....and worst case scenario - I'd have entertained the 800. Why ? because that's what I'd likely get on ebay anyways, but with more hassle.

but you just give the guy a flat out 'no' in a dismissive way ... you have absolutely no gumption.

and i just noticed this on your adverts listing "Price lowered to 1050.00!" .... lol... what on earth did you start the listing with ?

Ya, notorious scroungers indeed

Well then, 'wall street' what would you say is a fair price for a barely used Nord Lead 4R. The unit costs brand new on thomann $1650.00 At the price it is now, that's a 600e saving.

As for adverts being full of scroungers, put in a hi quality synth for a search, and see what offers they get it takes ages to sell anything on there. Bearing in mind that I've been dealing there for a good while, as well as all my mates. Some of the offers are just silly...

There's nothing wrong with saving money, but We've found it a lot better to use ebay for smaller stuff. Personally, I'd prefer to take a grand off someone who's face to face that way they can't take the piss.

Thanks for that mate, much appreciated. :tu:

Looks like Daags was actually right! Hah the irony... :ud:

Looks like they are selling for around 880ish. Hmmm.... I wanted 950.00 but I doubt I'll actually get it now, if that's the currant climate. I don't mind saying no to that previous buyer, because if he's serious, he'll have another go (when I drop the price).

So many time wasters on Adverts.ie tho'. :( I've had quite a few people guarantee they will buy an item and 'could you hold it for them for a few days'. Then you never hear back from them...

But when I've actually sold something the buyers are very cool indeed.

Cheers!

EDIT: They seem to be very pricey in the US for a second hand one, but not in EU. Saw one second hand for: 'approximately £1,084.45' (1,526.97 EUR) - Good luck with that. :?

'Tyre Kickers', that's Class... :D

Hopefully with a few other bits, that I've got on here, that take me past the grand. However, I'm finding it hard to resist those Sly-Fy plugins. :D

Thanks again man.
