Dual boot for XP?

As for installing XP twice, is this possible if you have the OEM version of Windows XP, rather than the full retail version. I thought that it should be OK because you'd still be using the same motherboard, so no problem?

With OEM or 'Rescue Disk', doesn't matter, it works splendid, as long as you use seperate partitions.

I use 20 Gig C drive split in C and F, both have XP installed, one for internet, the other for audio only.
20 Gig D drive for current recording projects
40 Gig E for storage
G drive is DVD burner

Ok, been playing some more and I can't seperate out the services... seems like all users are stuck with the same set up.

So, dual booting XP!

I always used Bootmagic 5, never had a problem, but aren't planning on using win98 now so would need to buy an update (joke...)

I know you can just install XP to different partitions (folders?) and the boot.ini file malarky lets you choose which os at boot but there seems to be no partition hiding or anything. Call me old fashioned but I don't want to be able to see my audio OS partition when I'm doing internet stuff...

Tried OSL2000 but that hid the alternate os partition from one OS but not the other, anyone know whether it should be able to?

Else should I just buy the latest Bootmagic/partition magic?

If it's really only for yourself, not wanting to see the other OS, than you can download a system tweak tool like "XTeq-X Setup" ( http://www.xteq.com )to show/hide ANY drives of your system(s).

i haven't actually properly set up my dual system yet, but having tinkered with partition magic 8 for a half hour or so, Boot Magic does give you the option to hide selected partitions. i haven't yet installed both OSs yet, so I haven't yet experimented with hiding different partitions under different boot setups - I imagine it must be possible though.

This may be an odd suggestion but have you thought of using a removable hard drive bay and just having two seperate drives? Or possably getting a hard drive selector? You could make a ghetto one really easy...just hook two drive up to a single cable, set both as master/single drive and then wire up a toggle switch to the power connectors so only one gets power...should work fine as long as you only switch when it is turned off...then just tell the bios to auto set the drive params for that channel
