Two albums that Dieter Moebius co-wrote, Cluster 71 and especially Musik Von Harmonia, were very important to me. He will be missed.

Brian Eno was a big Cluster / Harmonia fan and collaborated with them on several albums. Ultimately, Eno got a lot of credit in the media and Cluster / Harmonia were overlooked.

Dieter Moebius (16 January 1944 – 20 July 2015) was a German/Swiss experimental/krautrock/ambient/electronic musician. Moebius studied art in Brussels and Berlin and met there Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Conrad Schnitzler (Tangerine Dream). They founded a band Kluster in 1969. After the departure of Schnitzler, they changed their name to Cluster. Later Moebius and Roedelius founded the band Harmonia with Michael Rother (Neu!), which also collaborated with Brian Eno.

RIP Sad indeed, the last calendar year has already seen one pilar of 70's german electronic music 6 feet under

I've been listening a lot to Zuckerzeit lately, for '73 Hollywood is so far ahead of it's time

I was amazed by how organic this track from 1974 was. It turns out they didn't have any sequencers so everything was hand played.

Oh goodness, he will be missed!

Three words that always come to my mind regarding Moebius & Roedelius are "listening, humanity, spaciousness"...qualities they truly embody in their art, and which are absent from so much electronic music!

Seems to have gone unremarked here at KVR, but Dieter Moebius died on July 20.

With Hans-Joachim Roedelius he formed Cluster - formerly Kluster (with Conrad Schnitzler [TD]), later Harmonia (with Michael Rother [Neu!]) - and continued to record and tour, solo or with many another luminary, until very recently.

Like many other people - and other artists - I first came to know Moebius and Roedelius through their collaborations with Brian Eno. It might be an exaggeration to suggest that the influence was all one way, but Eno's contribution to Bowie's Low album was almost pure Cluster.

It's all too easy to consider the music coming out of Germany in the late 60s / early 70s as part of a 'scene' - what we Brits affectionately call Krautrock - and no doubt there was a huge amount of cross-fertilisation and a certain cultural zeitgeist. But Moebius and Roedelius, together and individually, created genre-defining and genre-defying music that never did - and never will - grow old.

Electronic music has lost one of its founding fathers.

You just try to spread misinformation. That's all. There's no need to discredit Brian Eno here. A matter of ethics, I thought.

Agreed, this is what I like about Cluster and Harmonia.

Very organic and inviting.
