Paulownia is popular for telecasters because it's, light, bright, and resonant.

Build of a very high end guitar.
God knows how much this thing of beauty cost. I guessing an arm and both legs may have covered the deposit. But in reality it probably involved a couple of kidneys.

So can be OK but probably not appropriate for what I want (Humbuckers/Hardtail as I have a Lag Jet JV100 to test single coils).Uncle E wrote:Paulownia is popular for telecasters because it's, light, bright, and resonant.
I also found this at £95 which is mahogany and could be fun (there's also an Orange, as in Amps, one)

Whatever you get, put some money aside to get a good setup done. Some of the Chinese factories have gotten quite good but they don't put in the time for good setups.khanyz wrote:So can be OK but probably not appropriate for what I want (Humbuckers/Hardtail as I have a Lag Jet JV100 to test single coils).

I've gotten pretty good at doing that myself over the years. I basically give it the onceover for flaws and play it for a couple of days. Then if it's OK to keep, I check the routing and electronics, smoothing and shielding/grounding as needed. Then I check, trim and smooth fret edges, oil the fretboard (rosewood) and then do the neck/truss rod, action and intonation tweaks (I like heavyish strings and a low action, just above the buzz). A couple of hours and a final polish later and it's ready for life as a utility instrument, until a month later when you need to check it again to see if it's settled.Uncle E wrote:Whatever you get, put some money aside to get a good setup done. FYI: Auden have now taken over Gordon Smith production.

What is the wiring on that? I'd be worried about paint cracking near the output jack.

It's usually the frets that need work. If you plane the frets, you might have a guitar that plays like something 10x the price.khanyz wrote:trim and smooth fret edges

I am wondering about that as well. Although, generally, I have had little issue with the output jack on my old ESP custom.tapper mike wrote:What is the wiring on that? I'd be worried about paint cracking near the output jack.

The SGJ was an amazing value. I'm pretty sure it was the lowest priced USA-made set neck guitar released in the 26 years that I've been playing.
The Les Paul CM 2015 is a little more money but it's still an amazing value considering it has the Robot tuners, not to mention that it's gorgeous. Every garage band in the world can now play in tune:
