They removed the additive editor, so when re-synthesizing samples you can't actually edit the partials and their envelopes anymore, that's a pity.

All right now I am pissed off. Dammit Apple. And Camel.
Nah, it'll be fine. You lot enjoy Alchemy 2. And I mean it. Don't think about those of us who helped in the pioneering age of Alchemy 1. Maybe occasionally look back at us as we flounder in your dust, using an antique VST. And smile favorably upon us. And remember us when we can no longer be installed, and we fade into obscurity, like radioactive dust in the wind.

Of course I was wrong, just hit the EDIT button and it's all there, just like in version 1.Sampleconstruct wrote:They removed the additive editor, so when re-synthesizing samples you can't actually edit the partials and their envelopes anymore, that's a pity.

And the spectral editor is just as clumsy as it was in version 1, zooming out to see the entire image you imported is not possible either.

I can remember thinking that Alchemy 2 might give Iris 2 a run for its money here. Unfortunately not.Sampleconstruct wrote:And the spectral editor is just as clumsy as it was in version 1, zooming out to see the entire image you imported is not possible either.

No, not at all, they left this area pretty much untouched it seems. The editor is just as clumsy and slow as it was in v1, but in comparison to Iris one can actually change the spectral content and it's now stereo at least, but to really edit something useful it can take a week or two.lnikj wrote:I can remember thinking that Alchemy 2 might give Iris 2 a run for its money here. The granular engine now has up to 8 grain streams (they call them taps) and a position and stereo offset can be dialed in between those taps, the sound hasn't improved though, everything else remains the same, max grain size is still 230 ms, come on AppleCamel, you can do better than that!

Of course they can just like they improved upon all of the other pitiful synths in LogicSampleconstruct wrote: come on AppleCamel, you can do better than that!

So after importing numerous samples into additive and spectral mode I have to say, soundwise, nothing has improved, resynthesizing more complex samples still results in spectral blurry chaos which does not really sound good at all, what have they been improving/updating all these years?

Apple don't improve products and tech, they just assimilate it. :/jackmazzotti wrote:Of course they can just like they improved upon all of the other pitiful synths in LogicSampleconstruct wrote: come on AppleCamel, you can do better than that!
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

They bought the company and the manpower, so improving Alchemy is up to Sir Ben and his team, no?Ben H wrote:Apple don't improve products and tech, they just assimilate it. :/jackmazzotti wrote:Of course they can just like they improved upon all of the other pitiful synths in LogicSampleconstruct wrote: come on AppleCamel, you can do better than that!

I must agree, i was euphoric but now it settled down. It's of course in general better, especially the routing options inside Alchemy. But not soooo much better (but the same can i say from other famous synths which gots updated.... so Zebra 3 it's your turn nowSampleconstruct wrote:So after importing numerous samples into additive and spectral mode I have to say, soundwise, nothing has improved, resynthesizing more complex samples still results in spectral blurry chaos which does not really sound good at all, what have they been improving/updating all these years?
Mostly i miss now that i can't use all those wonderful tunig scales which are still available in Alchemy 1. No, i don't want to tune Logic, i just want to use some exotic scales as part of the patch inside Alchemy.
I was hoping even for an own tuning scale for each of the 4 sound source. And i was hoping for up to 32 sound sources for a patch.....
It's still awesome and especially when it comes to manipulating samples far beyond most other hybrid synths.
If they would merge the sculpture engine into it.... that would be awesome. Still amazed how great that "old" software is. I didn't heard any better in this area so far!

After testing some old patches in the new version the conclusion is: they sound all wrong, the saved snapshots sound nothing like they're supposed to, all old sounds need to be re-programmed in order to use them in Alchemy 2. Obviously many parameter assignments have been changed, especially filter resonance levels. So this is similar to the incompatibility from Iris 1 -> Iris 2.
