Hehe, yeah the king is one of my 10 bucks iPad synths called Mitosynth. It doesn´t has such a feature set and the best filters and so on but it gives me unlimited LF0 and let me use these in a way i love more than in all my desktop synths. F.e. i can modulate the modulator of the modulator of the modulator (or parts of it).......endless. It also can handle 32 soundsources and xfade (and more) between them in kind of a grid you can set yourself. So means unlimited modulation sources (which can be also all polyphonic if you want).B_Stone wrote:I'd love to check out the king! Why are you not telling me?Cinebient wrote:Well, i saw you mean crosfade loop.... yeah.... funny that even some of the cheapest synths can do this......Cinebient wrote:But you can crossfade in the keymap editor....
But in terms of modulation sources Alchemy is great (still not the king). Most other synths are very limited to just a few LFO and MSEG's.
Alchemy has a lot of modulation on offer, so it seems like its in a special class of uber-modulation instruments. What instrument would you say is more robust than Alchemy? The documentation says "over 100 modulation sources". That's kind of bananas.
Of course it can´t beat my desktop synths in terms of sound quality and features in general (but even here it can beat them in a few areas) but it goes some interesting ways and i can achieve sounds in minutes which i can´t do this way in all my desktop synths. I use it often to create sound sources which i import then into tools like Alchemy. I would love to have an extended version as AU.
Sound quality is not always the most important thing. I want new ways to play with sounds.
Would be great for a full touch screen based version from alchemy as well because you can do such great things via a touch screen... however....wrong thread for this theme.
I just think many of the hyper synths on desktop sounds great but are boring to use and or doesn´t offer really new things.
The whole package of the new Alchemy synth is indeed great but it´s not THE synth!
Indeed, tuning Logic (like i said before) is not the same as tuning just a patch inside Alchemy....

Let's be honest, Logic's microtuning capabilities aren't as good as the capabilities that were dropped from Alchemy since the VST version.B_Stone wrote:Logic Pro X has a sophisticated custom tuning system with about 100 presets and a simple editor for creating your own tuning systems. Pretty easy and it works on all plug-ins provided by Apple. It nice to set this system up and then have a wide range of instruments that follow the tuning system.jackmazzotti wrote:they got rid of the .tun file capability
hahaha what a joke!
apple will have to make there own special exclusive tuning system that only their synths use
Apple doesn't own scala or .tun so you are forbidden to use it
Want to use a tuning that has more than 12 notes? Can't do it... You're limited to 12.
Want to use a scale which doesn't repeat at the octave? For example scales with stretched octaves like the traditional music of Indonesia. Or modern scales such as Wendy Carlos' scales which repeat at the perfect fifth. Or the Bohlen-Pierce scale which repeats at the perfect twelfth. Just not possible on Logic.
Need to use a tuning with many small intervals in a row? You're kinda stuck because Logic will only let you do +/- 100 cents from the equal-tempered semitones.
Want to do all of the above? Specify your tuning as a .tun file and load it up in the original version of Alchemy, or in any of various other synths which support this crucial feature.
Logic's tuning system is a toy; not fit for purpose.

After importing now the same sounds into Alchemy 1 and the new version i def. can say that the new one is better and can offer more options to mangle your sound.
Also i find the resynthesis and morph working better.
I also think that some of the old patches sounded better in version 1 but after tweaking them a bit in Alchemy 2 it changed my mind.
The things i really love is also the independent arps for each sound source and the new FX routing.
This alone can create a lot more flexible patches compared to version 1.
It will take some time to explore it and i read the while manual because some things may be hidden a bit.
It's interesting to take a sound source and try to create the same patch with version 1 and 2. Then use the additional options from version 2.
I find it's def. a 2.0. How i also said before other developers doesn't delivered more for their latest updates.
Just the 2 major things bother me a lot and i will post it to apple (not that they care about me....but why not) is the tuning and the UI is still not 2015.
I still wonder why most of the desktop plug-ins look like the original pac man. Why have i such amazing UI's on my crappy iPad and a MacBook Pro retina. At least for me an UI is very important to have fun with a tool.
Nave on desktop looks like sh..... on my iPad it looks great (but crashes to often).
I get really headache when looking a hour to all these Logic non-retina tools.
I don't think the new Alchemy is skinnable
I really hope they update it also in the future and don't let it stay at it is for years now like they do with their other tools.
But maybe it's all just an test for that mysterious iPad pro which comes with Logic mobile
Then i must say that the remote ipad app is really great. The latency is usable for me. The original remote for Alchemy 1 (you could use the iPhone/iPad version from Alchemy as remote) was unusable due to the high latency. Here i would love to have the full UI too. So this is an big update too.
It would be awesome if i could edit everything on a touch screen where i have a real multitasking. The iPad app is still awesome for recording the movements you do and looks so much smoother and better. Working here with a mouse or controller is really a pain in the arse (for me). Also editing is a pain sometimes and touching things can be a lot better (not for everything of course).
Here is hope that apple will merge these things better together. The best of a powerful machine combined with the things a multi touch device can offer is great for such tools.
Next someone said that there is no polyphonic aftertouch but in the manual it says it is possible.... must try that too (another great thing to use a multitouch device as midi controller).

So i hope there is still polyphonic pitch bend..... if not i will come over apple. Just can't try it yet.
Another thing is after i imported all sounds i see they are mostly old patches or old with a new touch.
So i think it makes no sense to import all my old banks there.
Seems i must pick up the 2000 missing.
A few of the best are not included.

Like a lot of people I suppose, I had only used Alchemy Player. So I was familiar with the the basic morphing engine and the wonderful array of presets it had....but I never really leveraged it.
Now that I have the full version in LPX, I am mighty impressed with it's capabilities. That Simon and others have pointed out a few gaps versus the older version only excites me that it can, and probably will, get that much better. And I suppose I have the luxury of never being able to use those capabilities in the first place.
What a great update.
