Simple question why do software crackers do it? What do they stand to gain from doing what they do? The only explanation I have is that 99% of the cracked software is loaded with malware which harvest pirates' details for later use. It seems a little paranoid though. Obviously there is an advantage for the consumer but cracking software constitutes labour without pay

I guess they want to earn ad money.

Pirates must really hate ad-blocker.

Why does a programmer always strives for the most efficient solution to the problem? Because he gets paid for it solely? I don't think so. Same for hackers, i think some look for a challenge, some look for a way to polish their ego (Jace-BeOS beat me to it), some are simply indoctrinated. And some probably like to be controversial. I think to understand crackers, you have to understand the warez scene. I remember that some even state in the release notes that you should buy the software if you like using it, and propagate the try before buy dogma. At least i don't think there's the one answer to why someone does it.

That's like a bad attempt at making up for ripping of a dev, like Pontius Pilate washing his hands:

Oh, we just pirated so that consumers could try before they buy, but they should buy it if they really like it, for sure, peace out

Btw, on the topic, i found this thing hilarious: https://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=125289 (found that some time ago and had a laugh)

Crackers (and even "legit" DAW users who listen to what crackers have to say about it) attacking devs for ethically doubtful copy protection systems. How sick can it get. :D

Only for challenge and ego , just for the feeling to be special...believe me...but all this stuff are bullshit...because you don t use it when you got everything for free.Someone who downlad every plugins is someone who will not use everything and try to understand and learn to singularity of each plugin.Ask to someone who download cracked vst to tell you the difference beetwen Uhe presswerk and softube FET (audio)...i m pretty sure he will say : it s'the same.

Post

Yep, it definitely leads to an obese behavior when you simply can download and use anything you want. And you will surely not cherish it in the same way as when you bought it too.

They feel like they were freedom fighters while they're destroying their own future!

Having access to whatever plugins you want whenever you want does devalue the whole thing. Most of the cracked plugins are also faulty in some way because I think the cracking process involves altering crucial bits of code. Im surprised more developers dont implement external copyright protection a la propellerhead. Ilok seems bulletproof from what ive seen.

The ones who suffer are smaller developers though. The major developers dont mind cracking as much because it destroys smaller ones and clears the way for them. The end result affects the entire industries because the most innovative startups are choked

You re right dewgong.downloading devalue the product , but you said something very interesting , do you think when the cracker modify the code they modify some part of the sound algo ? I d'really like to have the advice of a dev for this point .i am curious , and you said something very interesting...

Post

Since when is the copy protection in the sound algorithm??

I'm neither developer nor cracker but I cannot imagine that...
