Uncle E wrote:The SGJ was an amazing value. I'm pretty sure it was the lowest priced USA-made set neck guitar released in the 26 years that I've been playing.
Given the current US to Aussie $ conversion rate and the fact that there's freight, profit and instrument cost to take into account, the price I scored this at was ridiculous. A complete no brainer.
It's even the colour I'd choose if choice was an option.

and I'm really not sure about auto tuners. Just something to break further down the track. I've a multitude of choice available if I want to play (sorry) with alternate tuning

I got a set for my strat, just to use for trade shows. It's nice to not have to stop to tune before giving demonstrations.

But I do like the idea of kids in high school bands getting to use it. As long as it lasts them through their college years, it's worth it. Maybe this is Gibson's version of planned obsolescence.

Maybe Gibson has a plan to ensure that high school kids never learn how to tune a guitar by turning 'those things on the end'.

I installed min-E Tune on my Les Paul... took it to a local luthier for a proper setup... and they called to let me know one of the gears was stripped.

Talked to the guys at the local GC... and others are having the same issue.
They've had to replace min-E Tune systems on numerous 2015 Gibsons.

All that said, I like the idea of min-E Tune
Especially at gigs where I need to quickly switch tuning... and I've got numerous other things on my mind (talking to the crowd/etc).

I think I may be ordering this next week:
TI_JC2_IVY_E-1200.jpg
Cantrell sound, but with split coil option to tame it when necessary :).

I should mention that I am looking at the Tribute version of this, which goes for around $500. I think the US-made version is significantly more.

We're still working on it. Sorry for the delay!
OK, thought I'd check with you again - any date (or approximate date) yet?

Finally finished this guy. The picture is a bit washed out, it's a lot darker in person. But these are Bareknuckle Blackhawks with a Cobra in the middle position. I have it wired off of a push/pull volume pot. Down is typical B, Bridge screw + Middle, Middle, Neck screw + MIddle, Neck.

With it up, I get the middle + slugs instead of the screws in position 2 and 4. Position 3 has both slugs. 1 is bridge screw, 5 is neck screw.
So far with just an hour or so of playing, the Cobra really stands out. It sounds great.

The neck is unfinished flame maple that I hand burnished.
