Hello mr. christianmusicmaker. I see your posts on cakewalk all the time (I'm nnc studio over there). I am a lucky one who can upgrade to Live4 for $49- ($79- for a manual incl) But to be honest Its not exciting me that much..Live3 was the missing link that changed my veiw of making-composing-not just recording music with a computer. I love it. but so far I am finding the additional midi and vsti stuff in Live4 a bit "clunky". I'm hoping with a manual in hand or at least with more time and reading the help, I can change this opinion.? At least I know that I will still have Live3 on my machine, if I want to go back.. I was wondering If anyone is aware of things that are no longer present in Live4 that may be missed? Forgetting midi and Vsti has the interface changed concerning the original apps? Is this question clear? Its early and I'm only on my 1st cup o' coffee...cheers! and peace from Woodstock!

Hi there...

I don't know if I can answer your questions yet as I will still be spending a good deal of time with the Live 4 demo to answer many of my own questions.

I think this information may go some way to answering your questions...

This is what is new in Live 4...the interface for me is still very similar to Live 3.

uncleruby,

feel free to ask any questions you have to me. I love live4, its EXACTLY what I've wanted all this time w/o knowing it.

Nothing from 3 is lost, in face, if you don't add any midi stuff, it will function the same as Live3, except they took away the monitoring section. This has been promised to come back however, due to popular demand.

uncleruby, the thing about the midi implementation in Live4 is that its meant to be used 'live' or at the least 'performance-based'. If you try and use it like a snore-mal (tm) sequencer then you'll be disappointed at its lack of 'deeper' options, however if you're a play and go kinda guy, you may (I certainly do) find it to be 10x easier and quicker.

If it sounds good it is good.

Glad tidings indeed. I'm new to Live but it would be a shame for experienced users to lose something they were used to depending upon.

Got mine... And I'll have to say, I'm getting really hooked on composing in Session view! If you look at it in a chorus, verse, break sort of organization, it's very quick and easy... plus it allows a lot more variation while composing... Very cool... Now if it was optimized to use dual processors...

That's how I like it. Live4 installed without problem, handled all my VSTIs and the new features are great. Pure fun.
It's about time for the past to end

Crud, the ableton forums are down.

First I got this error intermittently, then it happened on every page hit. Or maybe it happened all at once and I was visiting non-forum pages.

"phpBB : Critical Error
Could not connect to the database"

Oh well, we've done all the testing that needs doing for a while. :-) Any further problems will have to wait for the first maintenance release, won't they?

[edit] Never mind, they fixed it.

I see Live 4 as the biggest sampler ever made. It reminds me the Akai MPCs, but it´s a lot more. The new instruments included, impulse and simpler, plus all the routing, envelopes... I see the vstis as another sampling source. I can make any sound, I have been learning a lot and sound designing with Live is a dream.

I´m making a lot of simpler patches this days. Try to feed it with tiny raw samples, you can get a lot of different sounds. You can´t do multisampling, but you can play several simplers at the same time. If you like creative sampling I cannot imagine anything better.
