Purge Day

So...today was purge day, what has become a regular event involving deleting any and all VST and VSTi from my folder that have spent more than a month there without use. Recently I realized that I really am not all that fond of synths as I prefer "natural" instruments. Originally I believe that synthesizers were intended to emulate natural instruments, hence the term synthesize. As they grew in popularity they became sound design tools. I am not a sound designer and I am quite happy with the traditional sounds produced by " natural" instruments. I have begun to use Studio One Prime for this very reason and I am enjoying it's "restrictions". It has some synth sounds but mostly not, and is limited to the effect suite that Presonus provides. I'm loving not having to decide among hundreds of plugins. I probably will never purchase another synth as I have become bigoted in this regard....they basically all sound the same. I don't care for the harsh, distorted, glitched up versions of the handful of tones that these sound design tools make. What is the point of the digital domain if you have to thrash the output to use it? I prefer melody to cacophony. I had fallen into the trap of lusting after products that I can't afford and ultimately didn't need. It's quite liberating to know I can make the music I prefer with what I've got. As for synths it turns out that the handful I keep are mostly free.
