Here's something I finished writing about two weeks ago. It's called Dark Lotus:

Influences - Barry Adamson (first section), John Carpenter's "The Fog" soundtrack (second section).

The mix still needs some work, but I was getting a little punchy from listening to it so much. Heh.

Equipment used:

Roland XP-30 (all synth sounds)
Cakewalk Audio FX1 (Compression)
DB-T Tempo Delay
DB-L Master Limiter
Drums sequenced in Fruity Loops with Sample Fusion's Real Drumkits

be that as it may , i streamed your piece , as i can't recall ever listening to any of your work ...

i quite liked the piece ...
it is well played , and well produced ...

i would say though that it is dynamically
a little flat for my taste ...
i think the piece would benefit from some
dynamic variation ... it tends to be about the same from start to finish ...
a minor quibble , all told ...

Nice tune, and a nice dark feel. The mix sounds a little muffled though, there's no top end. Also I would increase the release time on that dark pad you're using. There's a gap at 2:35, is that deliberate? All in all a nice bit of music, but needs a little EQ work and perhaps a chord or two from the piano.

Yes, the gap is intentional. I normally write pieces with 2-3 sections, sort of a micro-sonata, if you will. Thanks for the tips.

this is giving me a feel for something, i don't know, soundtrack with the crook sneaking around in the dark looking for the jewels or something...face blackened, very ritzy james bond kind of bad guy. ok, maybe not, that's a very mellow piece of work you have there. the mixing and mastering are much better than i can usually do....that's not really a big compliment, but i like it

This is nice track. There's a bum note at 3:00-ish I think. But overall this is pleasant to listen to.

Yes I would reduce the compression. Try the Kjaerhus Audio free VST plugins, IMHO they produce some of the warmest, brightest compression and EQ, and his Master Limiter is all I ever use:

Just put the mda Dither at the end of the Master Limiter and you're all set. Worth a try. His EQ also has some great EQ patches you could put on your master bus as well.

The BuzComp compression set is very good too... I found the KjaerHous stuff was great for individual instruments (reverb is great on snares, the compressor is great on vocals, and the new delay is really good) but I don't think they're very good for entire mixes.
