just checked: SE 1.2 64bit will be capable of VST 2 *or* VST 3 export.
(edit: oh no sorry, that's wrong, conflicting info: on SE site, it says
64bit is VST3 only.. i think there's some move to have a way to have
more than one preset though - strange choice in the VST3 spec..?)
i think there's every reason to have an optimistic outlook.
currently downloading latest 1.2 alpha in order to start using it, since
it can run alongside 1.017 quite separately. i'll continue to use 32bit
for the time being, but when this machine packs up, it will be
replaced by a 64bit job. doesn't mean i'll dump 32bit because i'll
be able to run both.

SynthEdit 64-bit makes wrapped VST2 plugins, so if you rename your VST3 plugin to *.dll, it's a VST2 plugin. Not tested much yet.
