I downloaded Sampletank2 Free today and as an exercise created this little track using every one of the free instruments from the demo.
Download "Seachange" - 128Kbit/44Khz/1:44 - 1.65MB
1 instance of Sampletank 2 Free - 8 part multitimbral, no external FX at all; made in Tracktion.
The only drag about the ST2Free demo is you can only use one instance at time, which means all fx and post processing of each instrument happens inside the plugin. No biggie though. I quite like the sounds, but I wish IKM had given us a broader palette to play with. Not enough for me to make a call on whether to buy this or not.

I have to say, the effects on tap in ST2 are very flexible. My rule was that I had to use ALL the sounds, so that patch called "Oh Baby" (soul dude singing 'Oh baby') was not going to work, so I completely mangled the sample using the onboard fx. (slicer rocks!) I also built my own amp and cabinet for the guitar, it ended up sounding half ok actually.

Nothing there...will try again later.
PS: "seachange" is also the title of a "Beck" cd.

Yes, and the title track of that song is incredible.annode wrote:Nothing there...will try again later.

This was very well done. More sounds will be given away each month so you'll be able to do more things too. But, as done here, you can get really creative with the 32 built-in effects with 5 per part.
Maybe it is not a bad idea for some people new to the module to go to www.sampletank.com and fish for past demos that I did like the video presentation and other stuff. You won't have all of the sounds from the video demo because I am showing ST2 XL but you have some stuff like the stretch vocals and the I-Map drum kit to pick up a few ideas from perhaps.
Anyway, ahhhh music. Speaks for itself really. Great work Koorby!

Sounds pretty good. Of course, I'm not surprised, since I like your previous work as well. Have you thought about putting a delay on the lead guitar around 0:50?
Buy my cd here (Prog rock/synth pop/classical/soundtrack-ish music):

Hmm, try right-clicking and doing a 'Save as', worked fine for me.annode wrote:Nothing there...will try again later.

Jeff Beck song huh? OK, I'll have to change it then
Thanks DaveSquids wrote:This was very well done. More sounds will be given away each month so you'll be able to do more things too. But, as done here, you can get really creative with the 32 built-in effects with 5 per part.

I would, except I used the entire fx chain of 5 to get that guitar sound. (that fx patch is (c) 2004, Koorby, cyanogen wrote:Sounds pretty good. Of course, I'm not surprised, since I like your previous work as well. Have you thought about putting a delay on the lead guitar around 0:50?
To everyone else, thanks for the comments, much appreciated.

Cheers mate.
Re: more tunes, I quote a famous chief engineer - "I kenna make her go any faster captain!". Being a family man, I have very few hours in the day to make music, so my output is slow, sorry

Cool stuff! I remember getting really creative with ST1 Free, those effects could really warp the sound - and that was just ST1!!
Maybe we could do a blatent marketing excercise and have an ST2Free competition! Contestants must compose a whole tune using just ST2Free!
Forever,
Kim.

Actually there are 10 free sounds. It's a lot of megs to host for download and since thousands of people download it since it is free IK splits it up over a longer time period. There will be more sounds each month though. I have another extra 9 SR sounds reserved for this but other than that there are going to be 3-4 sounds given away each month too. I think that'll do for free.Koorby wrote:

Thanks DaveI did look at your videos about 3 months back, made me lust after ST2 then. Can't you convince the IKM people to release a few more than 8 free sounds though? Gimme some bread and butter man, not just the salsa!

Very nice, Koorby! I'm kind of curious . . . when you limited yourself to just those sounds, did you find yourself more innovative in the construction of the song? I used to write a lot more, but now with all the instruments I have at my disposal I find myself "auditioning" multitudes of VSTi's for "that sound in my head" instead of just making it with the sounds on hand. Just wondering. . . .
Squids,
In the macro section of the GUI, is that supposed to be "Release" instead of Releas"? Sorry if this has already been covered!

why change your song title over this?annode wrote: PS: "seachange" is also the title of a "Beck" cd.
there's no need, and I sort of liked
'seachange' for yours.
