You read my mind. Use it creatively, tweak settings to the extremes. Have fun.
If you want a realistic singer, find someone who sings! That's never been our intension. We do like uncanny valley though.

So this is basically resynthesised samples by the looks of it, not actual synthesis

Everything is not black and white, we do mess with formants and other things as well.
Its not "modeling". Anyway if it was you would still need a "real person" to record countless permutations and derive something from it. There are other synths using that approach and we are looking at it as well.

"it took a bit longer...." Maybe that was the trick: I waited 15-20 seconds and tried again and was able to add the password.

Yeah, don't discount this instrument so easily! There are lots of ways to quite drastically alter the sound in nearly every page. The formant filters being the best imo for all kinds of creative articulations. The modulation page also helps quite well with this -- the vibrato can also be tied to volume, the formant, etc. These types are meant to be played and brought to life with the modwheel and other automations :tu: This ones sound particularly good :D

Here is a rather messy snipplet of a little of what I mean articulation wise and not so vocaloid sounding imo. The rhythm is a mess but some parts are decent enough after a few minutes of tweakings. I didn't tweak any of the words in least, just the default words with the default patch.

Nice demo Tjgoa, I agree it doesn't have to sound like vocaloid depending on how you play and sequence with it.

I've found manual played pitchbends for vibrato to be very realistic vs using vibrato.

Can someone tell me please if Alter/Ego is "just" a stripped down Chipspeech, or if it does other things. Can't wrap my head around it.

Yes and no?

Stripped down in the sense it doesn't have 10 voices, nor all the vintage emulation and circuit bending.

Improved in the sense that Daisy is a more modern voice bank

I agree with all the above......but don't forget using plugins with it like Martin Eastwood's "Duet" , iZotope's "Nectar" and BIAS' "PitchCraft". They can either add some realism or twist things up depending on what you are trying to acheive. :tu:

I look forward to a whole new legion of bad pop music from this technology.

I'm doing a pop song cover right now, with the idea that during the bridge the vocal gets more and more obviously robotic, then suddenly recovers with the last word. Like a robot that's running low on RAM and getting worse and worse, but finally manages to close the application with the memory leak and gets back to normal operation.

This thing sounds like little munchkin robot elf's. Fast forward 10 years and there might be something here useful beyond Anime/Vocaloid robot sounding stuff. Seriously, there has to be a way to do this right in the future with a more human sounding delivery. Then again, even voice navigation is still pretty badly done, but it will get there one day.

I love all of the work that Crusher-P did for this, especially the song choices (I like silent squeed when "Butterfly" came on, because I've been playing DDR since 1999).

Well, yeah it's free but it doesn't sound like Mariah Carey, so... :dog:

Even with better technology, you'd need a controller with the complexity of, I don't know, your entire freakin' mouth and diaphragm, to be able to truly individualize a vocal performance of any quality such that it produced something natural and artistic.

The "mother" app is Chipspeech. Chip. Speech. Even Vocaloids are represented as anime. When are those anime artist going to produce something that looks like a real person. You see that girl's EYES?!?

It's a freakin' gift. Yeah, it's there to get us interested in Chipspeech, and it worked. Kudos to Plogue, and TY :tu:

Meanwhile on KVR, one million dollars/euros/whatever gets tossed at the crowd, 20 pages of paper-cut complaints ensue... :hyper:

That Jump patch does not sound like brass AT ALL :?
