Trying to figure out if there is shuffle in eXT. I thought I read something somewhere that said there was. I really like shuffled high hats in my breaks tracks and would rather not have to program them manually! Also the other day I found a thread that had a bunch of vst midi stuff and an audio crossfader. Could someone point me to that thread. Thank you. :D

Thanks Jorgen! :D

I've only been using eXt for a couple of days but it is the most exciting piece of software I've used in years. Thanks so much for all your hard work. It is so refreshing coming from a background in Cubase forums to be on this forum where everyone is so greatful and the developer actually responds!!

Cheers :!:

I've been beta testing Live 4 for the last month or so and over the last week have been writing a tune with a very heavy shuffle feel. The new midi features are pretty good but very basic when compared to established sequencers. the problem I'm finding is, like Reason's shuffle feature, it's only a global setting. Every instrument playing the same "on the nose" shuffle is not how musicians play at all.

What I'm hoping or suggesting is that EnergyXT have full groove or shuffle independence in every part. This could be just a percentage control related to a global setting, or better, a completely separate swing/ shuffle control in each part.

It'd also be much better IMHO to be able to see that shuffle actually MOVE the notes in the piano roll, this way the resulting groove can be fine tuned by ear/eye and saved as a midi file. This does not happen in Live 4 or Reason, you have to work "blind".

This is not a critcism of Live4's features, or a comparison, I think it's another revolutionary program and I'll definately be upgrading, but for creating "surgical" grooves, I'm finding it a tad difficult.

I'm really impressed by EnergyXT, especially in light of what's planned for it. I strongly feel that very advanced midi editing features have been sorely lacking from almost all of the new breed of sequencers, maybe overshadowed by all these wonderful softsynths and samplers we now have.

It's about time a forward thinking programmer started to address the problem in a new and completely flexible way, I'm very excited about what eXT is turning into, especially that groove is top of Jorgen's list!

Fair play to you man, you are an artist!

Yeah, that would be sweet :). Actually, this shouldn't be a problem in, for example, Cubase SX2, but since eXT is a lot more flexible, it would be really cool to have a bunch of independent sequencers each with its own groove/swing/shuffle setting :D. Exciting :).

Maybe you could try to program your HiHats into the Arpeggiator...there is a kind of simple shuffle setting called "Q"

@pinkwasp
Love the idea of independent shuffle and actually moving the notes too (as long as I can undo the shuffle later)

@adds2one
the Q control in the Arp varies the ratio of the notes from 1:0 up to 2:1 (with Q=32)

I guess you could have an option to "make it real" on a button or key somewhere, or the shuffled notes could be kept "floating" so they can always be adjusted. I think Orion does it this way, it means you can get a better idea of where those notes need to be by eye, so you can still fine tune the odd beat againced an audio drum loop where the notes drift a bit.

You could then save the result as a groove template.mid or something.

This is all part daydream, but you never know :D
