Yeah, it has gone on sale before, for 90 USD
That's a good discount. Since I'm already really busy with the instruments I have and the crazy Nov./Dec. sales are nearing, I'll wait till then in hopes of a sale.

Luckily I was able to use Educational discount and got it for like 80$ :D

If you want to learn about subtractive synthesis, this is great:

+1 on the videos Garryknight recommended - really good intro to synthesis.

I'm currently enjoying this book: "Refining Sound: A Practical Guide to Synthesis and Synthesizers".

It's a cheap way to learn things. I'm halfway through and warmly recommend it. It uses a free plugin called Crystal from Green Oak, and the free runtime from MAX.

As it obviously hasn't been mentioned yet, Howard Scarr's guived to synthesizer programming (for the Access Virus, but applicable to any synthesizer) is a very nice read: http://www.virus.info/api/download/dlid ... %20English

Simon Cann did a series on different music synthesis methods. I've read his books on analog, fm and sample-based synthesis. I found them easy enough to understand, inexpensive (there are e-book versions available) and a good groundwork for moving to more complex concepts. You can find a listing here: http://www.amazon.com/Simon-Cann/e/B001 ... ont_book_1

One note: The e-books are Kindle editions but I found it simple to convert them to the non-proprietary .epub format for my reader.

Remember, "one man's meat is another man's poison" so I make these recommendations based on my opinions.

Cheers.
