Here is another Hobgoblin track from 1980. The original audio was salvaged from the same cassette source as the Novoid recording, and I processed it using an almost identical chain as was used on the Novoid session. Yamaha KX 580 SE cassette through my Pod Studio UX-2 into Goldwave and its hiss-removal facility. I then loaded the audio into EnergyXT to adjust the panning and removed some low and high-end with T-Racks EQ-PG, before adding a some light Quad-band compression to give it a slightly more modern sound.

...and before you ask, this story is set in a time before the adoption of DNA techniques in forensic science. A lot of the modern-day cop-shows seem to bypass these "human" factors in pursuit of a contrived truth.

Thanks very much for taking a listen, kryptonaut. Glad you enjoyed it :)

Recently I keep finding myself on the mellotron.com website, dreaming about an M4000D mini. They're only 10 kilos compared to the 55 Kg of our old M400.

This is really great stuff. Reminds me of so much of the British prog I grew up on... and now, looking at your musical influences on your website, I'm really rather jealous of some of the shows you've seen!

Speaking of the Moody Blues, I'm on the Threshold of a Dream. It's 4AM here.

Thanks very much for listening and commenting. It's much appreciated :)

Apparently, Mark (the lead singer) is going to re-record some of these tracks in Cubase soon. It will be interesting to see how they compare to the Hobgoblin renditions.

I forgot to list the Led Zeppelin concert in '79 (and probably quite a few others)

Why does the butler always get blamed? :x

It took me a while to come to grips with this but I'm glad that I did. I think the composition is excellent. It's long but it builds in an interesting way with plenty of variations. The lyrics (that I can understand) tell a coherent story. :tu:

Somehow the Korg Micro-preset's tendency towards weediness was brought under control and a full sounding mix was achieved (although sometimes I think the vox don't sit well in the mix). There are occasional rough edges in the performances but that is completely understandable with the studio clock running.

If only Hobgoblin started during prog's peak years, Seismic would be living in a mansion contemplating reunion tours. :)

Without a cliché or two, it wouldn't be Prog-Rock

The clock wasn't running, it was sprinting. We booked the studio for a day and had three tracks to record and mix. Things were a little rushed. It was our first visit to a studio, so we didn't really know what the score was. I was surprised at how well things went, but there are a lot of slip-ups, mainly from the bassist

Great stuff, I like the mellotron, I like the guitars, I like the voice. It reminds me the ambience of a piece of the Harmonium group entitled "The Four Seasons", I think.
The point 3.00 is nice. :phones:
