I remember a long time ago when I was looking for synths to buy. Omni was one of the synths I looked at (onmi 1 btw) and it seemed like a pretty cool synth, but I think it was very expensive for what at the time seemed like some kind of waveform sampler synth hybrid , I don't even know. However, it seemed to have a lot of stuff I myself would never use, sort of how I see nexus. From then on I never ever though about it again.Robmobius wrote:I don't think I've ever used an omni library preset (except a few from plug hugger).Pyrotek45 wrote:I know its not technically just a preset machine, that's why I keep having to repeat myself, but TO ME, its nothing more than just a crap load of sounds I will never use. Fair enough. I brought up Omnisphere for two reason: first because its upgrade costs $229 and second because its upgrade has a significant and easily discernible modification (the ability to load external samples). While I applaud FXpansion for taking care of the less flashy stuff, it may be wise for them to add at least one major, easily discernible feature to Cypher 2 to help sell to customers like yourself.Pyrotek45 wrote:I don't use Omnisphere. It always seemed like an overpriced preset machine to me. So I can't say, as I have never been interested in that particular synth, ever.
In any case, from the comments you've made, I think you will be more interested in Cypher 2 than Strobe 2. It's a much more capable and versatile synth in all regards.

I think Cypher 2 could fill the gap for many people between a more "typical" VA and some unique FXPansion features like the transmod system. It's a shame that this synth is fallen a bit under the radar IMO because of the GUI. Some stuff should be easier to use (for an example: I think of unison without the needs to use the transmod system...)
Strobe is a bit the synth for people having some experience with Strobe 1 and the (limited) capabilities of this amazing synth or for people searching for a not so over-complicated analog sounding synth.

There's precedent for ~$200 soft synths that aren't jack-of-all-trade boxes; Xils and Tone 2 are good examples of companies with products in that range that function more rigidly than, say Zebra or Synthmaster. Even in hardware, a 61 key King Korg is priced little more than their Odyssey, which will probably sell as well. A certain tightly married sound and feature set will still do well in the market even with similar competitors with more features. I think Strobe 2 will do fine.
That said, I think the price feels a little high for DCAM customers, factoring in replacing Cypher and Amber the upgrade price will be more than some people paid for the whole lot. Maybe a little discount on Cypher and Amber for DCAM/Strobe 2 customers?
I'm a buy at some point regardless.

I am not sure whether it has been brought up before, but imho Strobe is very well suited to the industrial and drone music crowd (well, a rather small and peculiar "crowd" but anyway4damind wrote:Strobe is a bit the synth for people having some experience with Strobe 1 and the (limited) capabilities of this amazing synth or for people searching for a not so over-complicated analog sounding synth.
Especially overdriving the filter, high filter resonance and topping that off with Strobe´s distortion effect can achieve sounds that in my old days I only deemed possible with analogue equipment (MS20->Mackie mixer... the old days indeed). Or with a rather complex effect chain behind another VA that would be too gentle on its own - not exactly an intuitive process.
I wouldn´t have needed to upgrade for that, because the filters I like best were in Strobe1 already, plus I could have added effects in the Logic track. New presets? No, thank you. Morphing? Meh.
But the new GUI is a revelation compared to the old one, and now I actually *like* using Strobe instead of just biting the bullet because I like the sound.
Plus I like to support a developer who makes a few of my favorite plugins. Maybe I´m a bit naive here, but I don´t think FXPansion come up with the prices as part of a "get rich fast" scheme, but rather because they have an idea of how many copies they might sell and how many mouths they have to feed.
And I prefer them to be around and work on Geist 2 instead of having to take up day jobs as waiters or bicycle repair men
Is that worth 79$? I think so. YMMV.

Just upgraded ($79), trying it out now, and it's...awesome. I think it actually sounds markedly different (deeper)than Str1 - which, to me, could be screechy/unpredictable at times. Your eyes will thank you for the GUI, and so will your brain, because it's way easier to see what's going on than before. Quality synth here.

...also - I think it's easy to overlook where Strobe (2) really excels - modulation and control. The original already had a full bucket, now there are more mod slots, the euclid and curve processors, etc. And while it's easy to overlook built-in effects (because they are redundant for a lot of us), they are part of the "trans-mod" system; that's the kind of crap keeps me up 'till 3 am

pretty amazing statement here....Pyrotek45 wrote: There are people who will spend their money at any price simply because it's fxspansion. These fanboys hurt everyone else because it tells the devs that what they're doing is ok, and it's not. Overpricing for minor upgrades is not ok, its a quick money-grab and people like you are exactly who fxspanion are aiming for when they price their products extremely high.

What a thread. price per preset, price per enveloppe, price per feature, price per this, price per that.
Hard to see that a synthesizer is only *that*.

I'd pay $2000 per VSTi if it meant keeping a bunch of these whiny assmasters from ever getting to use good software. If these things are so easy to do that they have no value, have at coding them yourself. If you find another product more valuable, buy it. But, a bunch of you idiots using your moms money to sneak software doesn't drive the value of these products. If you can't afford it, get a job. If you can't get a job, get educated. If you can't get educated, be a musician ... oh wait then you're gonna want free software ... grr its a vicious cycle.

In fact, you're the one to lose out imo.
