Been looking at some of the sample libraries to add a certain something to some of my tracks.

I'm thinking about Distorted Reality I and II and Bizarre guitar - the audio CD, rather than the CD ROM versions.

My stuff is mainly ambient with some loping breakbeat thrown in now and then (jeez, how dull does that sound   )

with this in mind, does anyone have any suggestions of which of the sample libraries might be worth my cash? Are people using these often in their tunes?

Thanks 8)

Not sure if yet you have any Spectrasonics stuff yet but you can't go wrong with any of thier products in my opinion. I'm waiting to upgrade Stylus before I purchase anymore libraries from them.

Production is absolutly stunning. I personally prefer to spend a little more to get the best than settle for a lot of stuff that I can't use.

A lot of guys here are creating thier own pads and atmospheres with synths etc and so do I but I have used some of the FX in Stylus and Atmosphere to add some color to my tracks. I've looked at all those libraries and if I had 600 bucks burnigna hole in my wallet, they'd be on my hard drive already.

Go for it, I say.......

8) they are just perfect libraries..

i'd go for the cdrom versions though... i've had audio verions of distorted 1 and 2 for 2years and i'll admit to very rarely using them.. because of this

should get my arse into gear to get them changed to cdrom

but the others i have are stupendous :D all used very regularly

Thanks for the replies. 8)

Yeh, Fitch, I hear what you are saying - I don't have a sampler, though, and so I was just thinking of manipulating the wav.s in an audio editor.

Not such a good idea? I don't have ANY sample libraries at the moment, and so I'm not entirely sure what I'd be missing out on

Any other opinions or advice welcomed :)

Distored Reality I and II are *OLD* (circa 1995-1996). Not saying they're not good, but be prepared to go to the movies and hear those samples. ;) A quote even from their own website.
The following year the company broke new ground with its Distorted Reality series, widely regarded as the best selling and most extensively used sample libraries of all time.
I know some are picky about having their 'own' sound. Also, if you already have a CD audio extraction program you like, and are prepared to rename all the .wav files to something more useful than Track1, Track2, etc, then go for it. Least it's not a multisample library I'm pretty sure (ok, I could be wrong, I don't own it, but Fitch does.)

That's why you pay out the extra cash is all that extra work has been done for you. GReat library, I've never heard anyone complain about it ever acutally. Just realize it's been HEAVILY used.

I've got distorted reality 1, and think you could probably be more creative making your own. not that these aren't great, but as devon points out, they have been heavily used.

Brilliant. Thanks for the input everyone.
I'll do a bit of thinking again (that usually ends up in me buying  )

Miro,
These libraries are old relatively speaking but I'm not sure that should make a difference to you or not. I guess it depends how you will use it.

You have to know that Spectrasonics will come up with something newer soon... but it will also be used heavily commercially because of the quality of the product.(it is inevitable)

I wouldn't make a decision based on how many people have used the library....rather, how much you think you can use it in your own work. Just my thoughts...

Suggestion to you...call Spectrasonics and talk to them...my guess is that they will work you a deal if you say you would like more than one library and suggest the libraries were released some time ago. Eric is a good man and runs a good business....good luck. :)

Eh, I think for your sound you might want to purchase liquid grooves or metamorphisis. They have nice ambient influenced beats.
