Thanks for informing us about this new update! Glad to see Cakewalk improving Sonar's routing environment, wich is kind of weak compared to some other DAW's/Enviroments.AROSSA [Cakewalk] wrote:SONAR Ipswich update is now available:

Will download this update ASAP and can't wait to see all the future improvements I get until next June.
T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

I've been recording soft synth output to other tracks for some time. In Sonar, I would freeze the track, copy the resulting audio, and then unfreeze and paste the audio to another track. Not ideal, but it worked.
In Logic, I route the synth output to a bus and then record it on another track by using that bus as an input.
I'm assuming this new Sonar thing is the way I'm doing it in Logic now?

I've been working the same way for years- freeze, copy, unfreeze. I haven't installed the latest version yet, but I think this new method gets you halfway to the Logic method. I think rather than bouncing to a new track, you're just recording audio on the fly from a VST to its own audio track. Or something like that. Like I said, I haven't tried it yet, so I'm not sure how it works. The full track-to-track audio signal routing that you describe is still listed as an upcoming feature which is currently under development. Personally, I'm very excited to have the newly released feature, and the next version will be even better. This is an area which has been seriously lacking and is one of the main reasons I adopted Live as my secondary DAW. I think it's really great to see that these longtime feature requests are finally being addressed, and for that I want to extend a huge thank you to the development team at Cakewalk.Jace-BeOS wrote:I've been recording soft synth output to other tracks for some time. I guess you can't count either ?aMUSEd wrote:

With the new real time synth recording all you do is arm your synth track, hit record and play away done. You could also create a new audio track, arm it and set it's input from the synth and record away. It's a good feature, and as has been said one that has been available in other competing products for some time. The full track to track routing stuff should be good when it's done.

The Sonar names have gone in alphabetical order, named after Massachusetts towns.aMUSEd wrote:Huh?jinotsuh wrote:I guess you can't count either ?aMUSEd wrote:

Ok, I wondered why it looked like they were just sticking pins in UK place names.xphen0m wrote:The Sonar names have gone in alphabetical order, named after Massachusetts towns.aMUSEd wrote:Huh?jinotsuh wrote:I guess you can't count either ?aMUSEd wrote:

From http://www.theus50.com/massachusetts/cities.php
Cities in Massachusetts that begin with the letter "J".
Jamaica Plain, MA
Jefferson, MA
I don't think either are legally city governments but would be close enough for Cakewalk I'd think.

Cakewalk really need to improve Sonar's MIDI functionality. It is light years behind Cubase (especially), even Studio One and even REAPER (which is saying something because REAPER is still abysmal for midi).

I actually thought Sonar was rather powerful in MIDI terms, just horribly designed on a user experience level (the event list is a disaster of junk UI in 8.5.3, for example). One of my prime complaints really: frustratingly clumsy access to great power. I also thought they were jerks to remove the Studioware creation tools, rather than improve them. Now instead I am watching Apple slowly erode the Logic "Environment", rather than update the GUI to modern times (still trapped in the dark ages of GUI behavior).
