Is Hive capable of more sounds than Sylenth?

Ok im finally getting back to music again and believed it i pre ordered Hive but didnt use it much yet. Why did I still buy it? Cause I love u-he Products and normally u can resell at the same price so u dont loose money if u dont like a product.
I used a lot Sylenth for dirty trance sounds and typically stuff. Somehow after listening too a lot of sound packs and also purchasing some the sounds are not heavily varied like synth with more synthesisoptioNS and waves of course.
Seeing that Hive has more wave table but only 2 oscs it should be able to do more varied sounds shouldnt it?
The reason i ask is that I want to concentrate and make sounds on one synth atm which has the dirty Sound of Sylenth but with a few more options/wavetables.
Dune2 would be an option but somehow I use it mostly for more complex pads and wobbly sounds as I love the mseg matrix!

Yes it can get more types of sounds.
It can use pulsewidth modulation, but in Sylenth1 you have to just imitate it.
Just using the 3 different modes can give a good amount of variety (at 3:04 in the video)
16X unison is nice, and it might not have 2 layers, but it has 2 main oscs and 2 sub oscs. Having everything on the one main display page is great.
Drag and drop modulation is a nice added feature.

Hive is capable to do stuff that Sylenth1 isn't (yet) able to do like:
Sync, some limited FM & PM, some decent routing for filters.
IMHO, I see the waveform generator of Sylenth1 is much more better as well as the filters.
Yes I could remake some of my Sylenth1 patches with Hive, but I prefer Sylenth1 more..
I wonder how people consider Hive is Sylenth1 killer!

The typical unison sounds are similar... Hive misses the 2th layer, so you cannot create the same sounds as in Sylenth if layering is used. But... this is not completely true because most of the time the second layer is used also in Sylenth for some kind of sub oscillator. Hive _has_ 2 sub oscillators so the chance is great you will not miss the 2th layer. Sylenth has no PWM, Hive has PWM.
But the overall sound of Hive is not the same as Sylenth (Sylenth sounds IMO better) but this is a different thing and of course a matter of taste.

if you want to concentrate on one synth i would go with dune 2 it's less limited ,sound great and you have it.
if it s not "dirty" enought in the sylenth way, spire could be a good choice, as same as dune 2 it s more capable than hive and sylenth for a one and only synth to use for everything. (also the prices are similar and you get a lot more )

Its been scientifically calculated that Hive can create 7.3% more sounds than Sylenth.
An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

I expect that you can create the same sounds with Zebra and cannot tell a differenceExamigan wrote:Check out these presets for HIVE

Only for this type of sounds.. you can recreate this with many VAs. Sylenth is a very simple synth which can be covered by a lot of other synth. The difference is more how quick you get the desired results and there is of course a difference in the sound because of different unison implementations, filter, envelopes, oscillator types, features...
Hive sounds IMO more like Zebra and between Dune2 and Spire (Dune2 sounds more "mellow", Spire more clean/transparent).

I always think that Hive has some sort of metallic touch which Sylenth doesn't have. And that it's filters tend to be a bit on the harsh side, while Sylenth's sound more clean, and creamy. I also could have sworn Sylenth has more bang in the envelopes, but Urs wrote that that's the one thing they orientated on Sylenth for when creating Hive. I dunno, i definitely hear a difference between those 2, and like 4damind, i prefer Sylenth really.
And to bring a third element into play, i like Spire even more.

Sylenth can do around 4 sounds whereas Hive can do 6 iirc. None of them can do the bassoon though. Neither of them have a burglar alarm either.

i really like that metallic thing, a disctinc caractere, also not a fan of the envelop (a switch to make these linear could be good to make these more versatile) and the different mode are not that usefull to me.. one single mode with different choice on the envelop curve ect could have been better insteed and i wish it had fm and sync. this synth could have been great for me but these few things are annoyingchk071 wrote:I always think that Hive has some sort of metallic touch which Sylenth doesn't have. FM and sync will very likely happen in an update later on, Urs mentioned.
I've absolutely no problems with Hive's envelopes. They're snappy to hell and back.

i don't know why but i have trouble to use the envelop for modulation, the decay stage don't give me the effect desired, for example when modulating the pitch with fast decay no sustain. i have to experiment more .EvilDragon wrote:FM and sync will very likely happen in an update later on, Urs mentioned.

That would be interesting. Now that Sylenth finally became Mac x64 compatible, Hive needs something extra to compete with it.EvilDragon wrote:FM and sync will very likely happen in an update later on, Urs mentioned.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try
