S1 Artist v3 - Using EZD, Komplete Players and GuitarRig from v2 and v1?

Just for the info:

I could run full versions (if licences were eligible) of
- ezd
- NI stuff like Kontakt (I guess it was v4) or Komplete Players and
- GuitarRigv4

... inside S1 Artist v2. This was a nice (kind of a) hidden feature.

Now: as it seems this is NOT possible anymore in S1 Artist v3. At least I didn't manage it. That's a kind of drawback.

Or: did anyone make other experiences? Is there anyone who got those applications running inside S1Av3? Maybe there's a trick we do not know so far.

Edit:
I'm in Mac BTW.

I'm a bit confused right now. Studione One Artist 2 was, as far as i know, the free Studio One version, when it was version 2. Studio One Artist 3 is the version which replaced Studio One Producer 2, BUT it lacks the 3rd party plugin support which S1 Producer 2 offered, so you won't be able to use VST plugins inside it. No idea how you got those plugins working in Studio One Artist 2, they really weren't supposed to work, unless you mean Studio One 2 Producer.

Studio One used to bundle NI Elements plugins with Artist, right? EZDrummer too? Now that seems to be over, so I am not surprised they aren't in Artist. In my Pro edition, in the Installation module it has I think it is called a Legacy folder with things I own from V2. I would look to see if you have something similar. Maybe it just needs installing again.

Studio One Artist is the OEM version and is bundled with PreSonus' hardware products. It was only ever 'free' in that sense. Artist 3 replaces Artist 2; Producer 2 has been discontinued. Artist users now have the option to buy add-ons to provide MP3 and plugin support, so this goes some way toward filling the gap left by Producer.

On Topic: Although Artist doesn't support plugins in general there have always been a few exceptions to support the bundling deals provided by PreSonus with S1 version 2. These included EZ Drummer and the Komplete Players from NI.

I've no idea if EZD or Guitar Rig are still supported but I have used the Reaktor and Kontakt Players successfully in Artist V3, though they now seem to only support the base instrument and FX plugins (i.e. not all the multiple-output variations that NI provide).

I didn't have to so anything special to use them, I just copied the DLLs to the default VST location (C:\Program Files\Vstplugins) and Studio One picked them up as normal.

Do you have the VST support add-on?

Hey, thanks for all your input.

I should have mentioned: I'm on Mac.

Just for the info as it seems that this might be new for some users here:

- S1Artistv1 came with Guitar Rig LE and ezd lite - In case you had the full licenses you were able to use both of them inside S1Av1 (yes, full versions then).

- S1Av2 came with Melodyne Trial and with NI Komplete Players 8 - So: in case you had the full version licenses you were able to use:
- Komplete Players 8 - this means: if you had full versions of Kontakt, Reaktor and Guitar Rig you were able to use them inside S1Av2 (yes, in "Artist")
- If you had the license of melodyne you were able to use Melodyne (Essential, Assistant or Editor full version ... of course regarding the license you owned)
- EZDrummer - If you had a license of ezd you were able to run the full version inside S1Av2 - AND: not only EZDv1 (that came with S1Av1) but also EZDv2 if you got the v2-license of EZD. Yes, I AM able to run it although ezd lite just came with S1Av1 (but not with S1Av2).

So, now you see: this whole thing could already be what some might consider as a (nearly) "full featured" DAW. In my case: what would I need more?

Now:
- S1Av3 - It doesn't come with any thrid party trial or demo licenses. That's a bit of downstrip. I guy from presonus support mentioned that it should be possible to run those (older) license inside S1Av3. At least - I couldn't make it so far. Note: it definitely WAS possible to run EZD inside Artistv2 although there wasn't a trial inside S1Av2. But it kind of adopted the licence that came with S1Av1.

I think I AM able to use my Melodyne Essential in S1Av3 (although the trial license for Melodyne came with S1Av2 and not with v3) but EZD and all the NI stuff don't show up. Hmmmmppffff....

Really? That's interesting, very nice and excactly what I have been looking for.

Kontakt PLAYERS would also mean that GuitarRig sould be available since there's a free PLAYER for it and os it should run the full version as well. How did you get that running? I suppose you're on a windows system, right?

Anyone hints for the Mac?

I DO own all three licenses: S1Av1, S1Av2 and S1Av3!

Why do I ask all this? I'm simply a friend of downstripped possibilities. That's it.

I'm on Windows so I can't give you any tips other than to say that what I did for S1 V3 was no different for what I used to do for S1 V2. I've no other licenses active than the Artist V3 license and the plugins were installed in the usual VST location for Windows x64. I haven't tried Guitar Rig but I don't see why it wouldn't work given that Reaktor and Kontakt do.

Post

Here's what I have in my plugin folder ("C:\Program Files\Vstplugins"):

Kontakt 5 16out.dll
Kontakt 5 8out.dll
Kontakt 5.dll
Reaktor5 16out.dll
Reaktor5 FX.dll
Reaktor5 FX16x16.dll
Reaktor5 FX2x8.dll
Reaktor5 Surround.dll
Reaktor5.dll

And here's what shows up in Studio One Artist:
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hm, thank you.

But isn't it a but weird that it doesn't work on the Mac platform? Where's the difference... "licensewise"? Maybe I just need to navigate to and add an additional plugin folder? But where is it on the mac?

dll means vst. But S1A on Mac should recognize vst as well. And what about au=component? Both plugin versions Arne installed.

Since there's no way to configure the VST paths in Artist I think it's just a matter of putting the plugins in a location that S1 actually looks for them on startup. On Windows it looks for a standard registry entry ("VST") and if it doesn't find that it falls back to trying a few standard paths. The problem is that none of these are documented and even the official advice from PreSonus is conflicting and often just plain wrong.

I assume that there are standard locations for VSTs on Macs, have you tried installing the NI plugins there? According to Steinberg these are

Hard disk/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST
Hard disk/Users/Username/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

If that doesn't work are there any other means of locating plugins (maybe an environment variable?) that could be sending S1 to look somewhere else?

I have no idea about AUs but I imagine there are default locations for them too.

Post

Thanks.

Yes, of course there ARE default locations. All my plugins are installed that way and the show up in Logic X (my main DAW).

This is where my plugins are (as well as AU which use a folder called "component"):
Hard disk/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

I will have a look at this place:
Hard disk/Users/Username/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST

The S1 config files that deal with VST plugins are Vstplugins.settings and VstBlacklist.settings - have you looked in them for any clues? You could try deleting them and let S1 recreate them on startup to see if that changes anything.

Post

That's good hint. I will try that. I'll have to find the location of those files.

I found this in another discussion on KVR
bharris22 wrote:the full versions of Reaktor, Kontakt, Guitar Rig and Kore Player appear to work in Artist when their .dll files are placed in the Vstplugins folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\PreSonus\Studio One 2\Vstplugins and C:\Program Files\PreSonus\Studio One 2\Vstplugins :).
Maybe you can translate these paths into the Mac equivalents and try there.
