Hey, thanks for the positive feedback. Even though I didn't cut the body and neck myself, the rest was done with my own sweat. And getting everything to fit and finish is actually a lot of work. It's a reminder of how amazing it is that factories can crank these out in volume. I have two strats that I did myself, one SSS and one HSH. I couldn't be happier, but they were a ton of work.

I had time to play quite a bit last night. The Cobra in the middle position is just fabulous. Only downside is that I suck at doing setups from scratch. It isn't quite "a player" yet. Getting that last 2% is going take like 90% of the work. It plays ok, but I have several guitars that are effortless, so i have a proper comparison. However, that fretboard feels amazing. When I get it completely dialed in, it will be smokin.

Cheers
EDIT: which leads to the ever present question that is the soul of this thread ... what next

We do the fret ends on all Warmoth necks. They're a little sharp if you don't.

I worked on the fret ends when I was burnishing the neck ... by the way, unfinished necks are hard to put down once you've played one.

I'm more talking about getting the intonation, action, relief and float "just right". I have a couple of high frets that are causing me to have to keep the action just a hair high. I don't have to tools to level the frets properly, although I know how to do it slowly and carefully with a fret rocker and a sanding block. So, it will just take some time and effort. Or I could ship it somewhere and have it be someone elses problem :D

Have you tried a korina? That's my favorite wood for dual humbuckers.

Post

i haven't ever tried a korina actually. i'll have to have a weekend break in London and hit the music stores.
i really would like a Bill Kelliher Golden Axe.

they're out of production but i'm sure i can find a second hand one.

i tried a monoprice tele, on sale for $95 including shipping. it's not got the greatest 'action' (as to be expected), but by golly this thing has incredible tone and sustain. amazing what these sub-$100 guitars will do.

if memory serves, when the monoprice strat goes on sale, it's only $75 bucks or thereabouts.. gonna hafta keep my eye open for that.

also, they have a 15-watt tube amp (5 tubes (3pre/2main), 12" celestion) for around $230 (226.95?) bucks.

I'm 36 y/o and still learning to play. (I've been going about 6 months now as I find time, and I'm slowly getting better)

But, once I manage to feel like I'm proficient at the instrument (hopefully in another year or 2), and better able to improvise over different scales, I'm planning to reward myself with a Schecter Blackjack A6. I like the look of it, though I haven't found one to try out yet. :P (I know, I know, the body is a Synyster Gates style/shape, but at least the head is different, and the finger board isn't covered in skull bats!)

Although, the C-1 Classic is also beautiful (and blue is my favorite color) http://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/ ... -23-detail

My current guitars are an Ibanez ADD120MG, and a cherry red LTD M-10 with a push/pull split mod. (both were bought used) I mostly use the Ibanez since we got the LTD for my wife, technically (though I still use it sometimes, and it's also been dubbed the travel/beater guitar)
