Pop music IS inherently stupid. But so what?

If I gave up things that I liked that were stupid, it'd be a pretty boring life. And I probably wouldn't be on KVR.

Love is stupid.
Cats are stupid.
Music is stupid.
Life is stupid.

But that is why they are so good. Imagine a world where everything is not fun.

Pop´s always being accused for being stupid, so how about trying the same discussion about rock music? As unfair as with pop, but probably could course a more agressive tone :)

Theres a difference between music intentionally created/manufactured as Pop and music thats just universally liked and 'becomes' Pop such as Quincey Jones, Michael Jackson and Prince.

You cant compare these guys with shit like Beiber, Rihanna etc who are manufactured and just the results of a capitalist process and marketing

Come on man... Jody watley.

Not exactly: people are straight-up biased against creative ideas, which explains why the same standards get recycled on X-Factor every year, chart hits sound eerily familiar, and everything in the Beatport Top 100 sounds practically identical. In fact, every tune your other-half loves is basically the same: Neil Young wasn't kidding when he said "it's all one song", and, as Nile Rodgers, puts it "the genius is really in the rewriting".
Disclaimer: These are not my words.....but I agree.

MJ was a great singer and performer, genius comes to mind. However he was as much manufactured and marketed a pop icon as it is possible to get. Possibly even more than bieber and rihanna. No question he had more talent though.

There is good and bad music everywhere. Mostly bad.

You know, it comforts me to know that I can still start a 10 page thread here at kvr.

But will it reach 40 like this one?
