Hi All,

I am getting into the market for a new computer. Problem is, in the last year or so I got a bit 'behind' the technology: I don't know any more what is considered a good graphics card, which RAM is better at what speeds, what motherboards are to avoid, and why I should go with XP or 64 Athlon instead.

So I am looking for a good magazine, paper, or (least preferably) a website on these things.

In Canada or in the U.S.

Something that does not hype the very-very latest-and-greatest, but gives a balanced view with some prices maybe. Even advertising-collection-type freebies would be welcomed.

Please share if you have something to suggest!

I'd recommend pricewatch.. but from my experiences viewing their site.. they tend to have mislabeled items and lots of unknown companies to which I wouldnt dare risk/give creditcard info.. but its your call.. www.pricewatch.com

Ummmm I've been buying products off of Pricewatch somewhere between 8-10 years now. While I've had some issues with some companies, overall, it's been a pretty satisfying experience. Hell, that's where I found Newegg.com which I know quite a few people swear by.

Their mislabeling is due to updates not always going through. Big deal. Most companies on there I've found to be good businesses that just aren't 'huge'. I often order from whomever has the best price too, which is usually a company I've never dealt with in the past. Like I just ordered from Memory Expo a 200gig drive. It got here quickly, and works fine. They had the best price by over $10.

In short, order by credit card, at least that protects you financially.
