ok, decided to see how far i could go with dekkys vocal.
used some of xoxos plug ins and crystal to screw with the vocals.
the background pad and drones and stuff are from absynth and the piano is a yamaha grand soundfont.
the result is a kind of glitchy ambient thing and i can't decide whether it's any good yet.

I didn't hear the other versions, but I like this a lot. I've listened a couple of times now, and it has surprised me every time. The cutup vocals are an excellent touch.

very nice track, lovely old joanna going on there. I'm not from the school of ambient bollox so your description made me hesitant about downloading, but well worth it, and just when it needed a beat you brought one in! For my tastes I would build the beat upwards from what you have now but that's prolly just me.

Beautifull. this is definetely my favorite of the three too. I love that piano piece and the drums are really cool. The broken vocals work a treat, though I sometimes think it's a bit much when the chorus is being sung in full,... But overall I love it...

Actually. How did you do those vocal effects in the first minute, I love that stuttering sound?.. did you just cut the wav in a wav editor or is there some special tool to do that?...

i used xoxos "atomic" which is extremely cool through "discipline" which is a delay type thing and recorded the output to a track, which i then chopped up and shifted around a bit.Glooper wrote:On my third listen.

Nice. The piano worked real well, and pianos in electronica often come off as very cheesy.
I would have like the drums at 1:20 to be more punchy and defined, especially the kick and hihat.
All the vocal tricks worked real well to my ears, but I guess you could in fact go a bit farther, adding some more fx to little snippets here and there. Just a matter of taste on that issue though.

thankyou for the comment. you might be right about the beat. it could maybe do with a "sharper" kit layering to give a clearer top and bottom.

The piano is a little too sharp (in tone, not tuning) for my taste - it makes it stick out too much. I think should be duller (and perhaps a little dirtier) to fit in better.
I actually like the drums the way they are - understated, they blend in well.
The arrangement of the vocal effects are a little simple too - their either "glitch/stutter" or "chopped phrase". It'd be nice to have some transition between the two, or something else to make it more interesting (intellectually stimulating) to listen to.

the piano was actually set up to go through isotopes vinyl to soften/age it a bit, but i'd turned it off
i was making a load of real time changes to stuff when recording the finished article and the leccy noise/hum was pissing me off in the first few bars (before the piano comes in) so i turned it off.
i'll sort it out next timie i revisit this.
by the time i'd stuck the vox through atomic and recorded the output with me twiddling like mad, cut it all up, moved it round to fit better, stuck it all through discipline and messed with that, re-recorded, chopped it all up again and rearranged it all, i was a bit knackered really and wanted to see what people thought.
it's the first time, i'vr done anything so adventurous with vox so i'm still learning.
