If you have a modern Nvidia graphics card (GTX660 and up) it can support ShadowPlay by enabling it in the Nvidia Experience control panel (sometimes the Nvidia Experience control panel isn't installed with the card drivers, so you may need to download it from their site)
ShadowPlay has a near-zero CPU impact, and you can adjust recording quality between 30 and 60FPS as well as the bitrate, record desktop audio as well as a mic input (though there really is no mixing for these, so I recommend recording you voice on a seperate application)
ShadowPlay's only downside is that the desktop audio it captures has some small artifacts...to the untrained ear, no one would notice. To those of us who work with audio, you can't NOT notice it.
If you DO NOT have a Nvidia graphics card or a card that supports ShadowPlay, there is also OBS (Open Broadcaster) - it's really intended for live streaming, but, it does have desktop capture features as well - it's also free. I'm not 100% familiar with quality, as I don't use it for capturing purposes, however, I ran a quick test and it didn't seem to drop any frames, so it seems good. It did output the file as a flash (.flv) file, so for playback you would need to use VLC media player (which, to be honest, I'm not even sure why you WOULDN"T have VLC installed already) and -MOST- editing programs don't support FLV, so you would need to convert it. VLC has a built in converter, but, my experience with it's conversion has been mixed...it does it great...when it works...but sometimes it crashes...
But, both OBS and VLC are free and open source, so no complaints here
Did you try camstudio ?
If you want to capture ASIO output of your host, use a WAV Recorder plugin on your master bus, and merge/sync audio & video afterwards.
