Thanks for the clarifications, Dan.dan@soundtoys wrote:This is mostly correct, except that the latency of Little AlterBoy is roughly 60ms (not 100ms), but it does vary based on your session's sampling rate.antithesist wrote: I think they said the alterboy thing is inherent with its intelligent look-ahead pitch detection... it always has around 100 mS latency, which can be compensated for in the individual plug-in DAW PDC, but apparently the rack can't shift its reporting dynamically.
If DAWs allowed for dynamic re-reporting of latency, Little AlterBoy would have been included, but we didn't want our latency to be fixed at 60ms to make up for the possible presence of Little AlterBoy. We'll definitely keep looking into workarounds.
Yes, my recollection added 40ms... also good to know it may be added to the rack in the future.

Hi there. No tryng to judge you because i am not even D of Developer but you may be wrong there...dan@soundtoys wrote:

Most DAW plugins most definitely support variable plugin buffers/latency and they can perfectly align sound signal within PDC implementation. Even most of the VST chainers does it perfectly (report dynamic latency) to a host.
So not sure what's there within your rack i just wanted to clarify it is possible for years now.
Live does it within Live Rack system (you add more plugins to a rack all of different latency and they are perfectly aligned) , if you use Cubase you can use this
http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_PatchWork/ -
basically it's a plugin rack system for "racking" VST plugins. And again if you add plugins with different latency (example one UAD plugin and one Nebula plugin and one Limiter with look ahead all three with different latency), chainer adapt to this and report this to DAW and DAW readjust it perfectly every time...
FL Studio does have this, Sonar as well. They all have their own "rack" solution which seems to report variable latency to host perfectly and host compensate it.
Kind regards

Thank you for that point! You are 100% correct that a lot of DAWs do support it, but a lot still don't. One huge one is actually Cubase. It does *technically* support dynamic latency, but you as the user have to go into the plug-in manager and deactivate/reactivate the plug-in. I actually just tried this in Cubase 8 to make sure I wasn't crazy. Most DAW plugins most definitely support variable plugin buffers/latency and they can perfectly align sound signal within PDC implementation. Even most of the VST chainers does it perfectly (report dynamic latency) to a host.
Worst of all, the latency change happens silently and pretty invisibly, so if you don't know this, you could be causing delay compensation problems in your session and not even know it! That's not the type of workflow we want for our users, so we designed it in such a way that it always "just works" without you having to think about it, no matter what host program you use. We like you to be thinking about creativity and sound quality and having fun when you use our stuff - not computers and delay compensation.
We have to support a LOT of hosts, and sometimes that limits us in what we can do to deliver a consistent experience across all platforms, but it's a deliberate choice to provide that consistent experience.
We still may put Little AlterBoy into the rack one day, but probably not until we find an acceptable solution to this problem! If anybody has requests of how they'd like to see things handled, feel free to throw them out there. Especially you Cubase users. Also, if I'm wrong about anything, feel free to correct me. I certainly could be mistaken about the ever-evolving capability of different hosts - it's hard to keep up with!

Still not heard back from support re writing presets as zero files
Anyone come across this and manage a resolve. Tried permissions, hardrive and folders, user groups, admin.
So frustrated.

Please provide me with your case number so I can look into this for you. I can't look up your case by your KVR forum name, unfortunately.MFXxx wrote:Still not heard back from support re writing presets as zero files

How about adding it to the rack as an Easter egg, so that users with a compatible host and the wherewithal to handle latency on their own could have that option?inharmonicity wrote:Thank you for that point! It would be nice if we could know which presets from v4 are in v5 as it doesn't automatically find the v4 presets and it's hard to know which ones to copy over - plus they are very disorganised and hard to browse because some are several folders deep (and they tend to get cut off by the browser too when too deep). Ideally I would prefer to organise them using Logic's library feature by converting them to aupresets but that is made much harder by them not even reporting preset names to the host. All in all I think Soundtoys preset management is their main failing.

low latency ? what's that ? .... i max my buffer out always, and i only look for lower latencies when i'm playing keys or something...at which point i'm not relying on fx chains...
anyway, seems weird not to let us choose to use the effect that adds latency if we so wish...in the rack

In the new V5 presets, I love the fact that now the main group is ticked so that if you are browsing from preset to preset with the arrow keys, you now know what bank you are (and were) in when going back to the menu (or to select something else from the menu). I had to backtrack a few times before, trying to track down what preset was where. Thank you for that, Soundtoys!

I'm really missing the digital mode from the V4 plugs. Having only analog means a lot of my existing projects sound different (not as good). I always found analog mode thinner than digital when ABing, so often chose digital, especially for bass heavy parts, but now I don't have the option.
I want to be able to bypass the analog output stage if I want, as running a signal through it with everything else at zero/dry makes it sound thinner.
I'm all for analog modelled plugins that add something even when all the parameters are set to zero (such as Clariphonic), but not if it makes it sound worse and there is no way to bypass it without disabling the whole plugin.

Whilst I agree the source of the issue is likely to be with smbolic hardlinks, every other plugin works fine as fedback I have installed Soundtoys with admin rights and verified any of the main and subfolders are not linked in anyway to the soundtoys install folders or subfolders.
The issue I have must be to do with the previous install reason I say this :
The factory bank installs to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Soundtoys\Soundtoys 5
However the software when launched automatically (for all presets) the preset bank menu is empty and the save function still throw up the unable to save preset error.
On opening the organise the Soundtoys installer has created a new folder on the secondary drive, which is where the software is trying to save the user presets :
E:\Users\Public\Documents\Soundtoys\Soundtoys 5
This folder was there prior to install and any soundtoys folders where manually deleted and the reboot pre new install. Thus created for some reason by the installer.
So the workaround is to
Create a shortlink to
E:\Users\Public\Documents\Soundtoys\Soundtoys 5 in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\Soundtoys\Soundtoys 5
This now works for recalling all the presets and v4 converted presets.
But still unable to save to location, yet any other plaugins or data can be save fine.
Something is corrupt on my system but I do not know what and why only soundtoys is being affected by this issue and no other plugins or pre/post soundtoys installation.
Help please?
