I'm pretty good at making 30 second intros :D but then I get lost after that. How is an edm song expected to go? Should I be introducing something completely new after the intro? I'm super lost. It sounds dumb when I layer parts together but never get anywhere if that makes sense. Thank you.

Sort of answered my own question...

Must the verse be in the same key as the intro? Should the bassline change in the verse?

 Well, I would advice you to experiment somewhat. If it sounds good then it is good. Why everyone have to be like everyone else?!

But to answer your question, the normal thing is that the intro is in the same key as the verse. The base line normally is quite "dull and static" in the intro, in order to change coming into the verse. Progress.

I am not familiar with dubstep and other types of EDM music but for progressive trance that's how it is normally done. The cool thing with the video (link below) is that you can see the spectra of the song and see with your eyes how it progress. This guy who made the video also put in some time info as well. How long intro, how long verse, etc.

Have fun making music :phones:

Thank you! I've been suffering from situational depression but thanks to kind words from family and here, I'm slowly getting back on track.

I am happy you are on the right track. For me creating music is a way to relax and forget about everything else for a while. And its a good way to put your feelings into something. Free and fun therapy.
