Bob Marley & the Wailers -- A bit cliché perhaps but I can't deny the influence they had on me. The first reggae record I heard when I was a youth was their album Natty Dread which I found in my mother's vinyl collection. No need for heavy metal or hip hop after that.

Daddy T-Roy -- A finnish radio host/record store owner/magazine & book publisher/record producer/music promoter. He had a reggae radio show almost continuously from the early eighties until his death in early 2000. Crucial educator, I still have few of the shows recorded on tape.

Jackie Mittoo -- The keyboard king at Studio One, the orchestrator, the arranger, the band leader, a keyboard virtuoso, just pure magic. It's a tough choice between him and Augustus Pablo having more influence on me and my music, but I have to go with him since I found his music first.

Dread Youth aka Kauhu I -- A long time friend of mine, a multi-instrumentalist who just keeps pushing out high quality music. My top favourite of the finnish roots reggae scene. Even though he's a bit younger than I am, I've learned a whole deal from him and he remains a source of inspiration.

Iration Steppas -- I pirated one of their records over the Internet when I was a youth and while I'm not a big fan of theirs, that record (Original Dub D.A.T.) gave me the idea that hey, I have this computer, maybe I can do this thing myself. So I definitely owe them a lot for that.

Other great contenders are Augustus Pablo (love his eighties stuff), the trinity of King Tubby, Prince Jammy and Scientist, Philip Fatis Burrell, Jah Shaka, Russ D, ...

Interesting that so few names mentioned above are repeated - interesting that(thus far), no mention of some guys that I thought would have been mentioned by now(Subotnick, Emerson, Eno, Fripp, Glass).

peace

If I had more than 5 I would have also put Subotnick, and Berio. But then I would have also had to mention Messiaen, and late Ravel, and Orff, and Bartok and so on.
