Little late to the game here, but my 2 cents etc.

I'm sure no one has bothered to try and pass off my patches as their own, since they are usually < mainstream ha-ha. But the whole idea of a logo/icon graphic to use (on our own sites) and a (main governing, if you will) site to link to it that has bios and links (back) to the actual sound designers sites does sound like a realistic and usable tool.

Something that should maybe require a small payment yearly (for upkeep, if only to throw in $5-$10 for webhosting/url costs) and to be 'acknowledged' by the group. And that last part shouldn't require any more than submitting a product to be *checked* for authenticity or originality, and having your own website/webshop of some kind. Ie = keep it indie, but some kind of proof-of-work would be needed.

If it is, or can be made, that basic, then I endorse this whole project and would be happy to join. :)

I am not a sound designer (yet) except that I design the sounds I need, when I need them. I been thinking some times if I should give it a try, but on a hobby level. I also bought presets from others and mainly from Ayin Zahev who is my big role model when it comes to sound design. I often study how he did his work and how he designed the different sounds. It is a bit like a cook going to cooking school to become a chef. I don't Think I will ever be as good as Ayin but by studing his ways my sounds will be somewhat similar in character. And now to my thoughts.
Similar in character? What that even means?

If you make almost the same sound as him applying similar tweaks, that has nothing to do with character, it's almost the same sound.

It's one thing learning the craft and other copying someone else's results for profit, you can apply some of his solutions to another sounds, pick his brain, that way you are becoming chef that got his own thing going for him too, rather than just cooking same meals to last measure as his master and offering just that...you can bet some of this guys are studying other designers work, but they still don't sound like them doing similar stuff.
If I learn by studying, let's say Ayin, and I use some ways to tweak the sound as he normally does, how can he then 100% say that he did not make the sound?
Well, why making so similar patch and having similar ways for similar thing, ask yourself, why would you sell people just another take on his work, do something else, try to get inspiration from somewhere else, rather than actual sound you bought from your colleague.

Instead of making similar sound, make different one using similar approaches, even he learned this trying to make other sounds to some degree, gained enough knowledge to get his vision come true.

If you know for example that modulating something will give you desirable result you heard on one of his sounds, why applying same thing on almost the same sound, why not using that approach for another sound you have in your mind that needs it to sound perfect.
If I take a preset that Ayin already created and tweak it to give it a slightly different character, is that stealing? Where is the limit?
Well, don't use his work to make money, easy as that, wait until you have something more to offer to people than slightly tweaked presets and already done thing.
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

Where are you up to with the club?

There's a lot of stuff on Sellfy for example and no way of telling if it is original
