On Gearslutz, I've been reading about Tony Klanghelm's release of the MJUC Compressor. His business model is fundamentally different from the likes of Steven Slate, as quite a few posters glaringly point out. This product will cost you about $30, and it's sort of a "for the people," value priced solution. He's a one man show.

Given some of the pricing paradigm shifts we've scene (Logic itself a good example,) I wonder how AUs will fare on the iPad / iPhone. Here is the latest from their iOS 9 Developers Guide:

Extension Points

iOS 9 introduces several new extension points (an extension point defines usage policies and provides APIs to use when you create an app extension for that area). Specifically:

The Audio Unit extension point allows your app to provide musical instruments, audio effects, sound generators, and more for use within apps like GarageBand, Logic, and other Audio Unit host apps. The extension point also brings a full audio plug-in model to iOS and lets you sell Audio Units on the App Store.

Furthermore, PSP & Fabfilter are already selling their products on the Auria platform (WaveMachine Labs iOS DAW.)

Perhaps we are in the midst of a major "market correction" or (I hate to use this one, but it fits) "Paradigm Shift?"

PSP & Fabfilter are two extremely salient data points demonstrating that it can be done even with complex solutions / audio effects. We all know the computing power, too, of the new iPad Pro, though the third party plugins have already been released. I believe the iPad2 or 3 is the cutoff, but don't quote me. As I mentioned elsewhere, I can see developers (perhaps not Waves) releasing point products (either full versions or scaled back.) Sure beats an iLok Dongle.

This is going to be huge, in my opinion.

I did forget that Bitwig only supports VSTs on OSX (I too arrange in Logic); however, perhaps now would be a good time to incorporate AUs (as many of the other DAWs already have, including Ableton.)

Now that we have Audio Unit plug-ins in iOS 9, I assume that apps like Synthmaster will be able to act as a Au-plugin and also standalone? After they implement the feature, of course.
I wonder if we then can have multiple instances assigned to different tracks in the host app. That eould be nice...

We really need Logic on iOS. GB is fun, but one track at a time, 16-bit limitation, and other stuff is just too limiting. Obviously there are other fantastic solutions (Cubasis, Auria), but if you're workflow is iOS-->Logic X Pro like mine is, the iPad still isn't quite there yet for true field recording creativity. It remains an "idea pad" for me.

my guess is that Logix on iOS will never happen - at leat not in the next few years.
With a little lick Apple is gonna upgrade GaragaBand iOS so that it offers a functinality similar to Cubasis.

Well, I don't care what they call it, as long as it eventually has feature parity with Cubasis. Really, I just need more simultaneous inputs and 24-bit. That's really it. Everything else, soft synths, live drums, whatever I'll still do in Logic on my laptop. Actually, with at least dual inputs, I could do a submix on a mixer with drums, and that would work in many cases.
