Wealthy... hahahahaha :-D

I don't know about anyone else here, but I was never wealthy! I had a full time job, but I lost it due to sociopathic management. I then went on a credit-destroying spending spree (due to Effexor XR) for about two years.

Some of what I bought was a huge waste of money: a Muse Receptor (which is dead now, after barely a week of use in total, and would cost more to repair than it's worth), a digital audio clock that I never use and should sell (but I hate eBay as a seller), two M-Audio FireWire interfaces (that M-Audio abandoned like the shitheads they are), and lots of expensive software that's now out of date and/or was never used (Cubase 4, Live 6, FL Studio, etc).

Some of my stuff is nice, but has questionable reliability: Alesis Fusion 8HD (that Alesis abandoned and is known for things like power supply failure and contains a PATA hard drive), a Korg M3m (that needs a touch panel replacement after barely 10 hours use), a t.c. electronic FireworX (which I recently spent $177 on to repair the PSU, also after having only ever used it for a few hours total), the last PC I will ever build (total nightmare of parts replacement)... :x

The moral of the story is: gear costs money continuously. The more you have, the more maintenance it costs. I also wasn't in my right mind while buying much of what I have; it cost me bankruptcy & ruined credit. I'm at poverty level and cannot work. What gear I have left now is all i'll ever have, and it seems hell bent on committing suicide :x :? :-(

Wow.
That's...unfortunate.
Maybe I'm lucky I can't afford it then, huh? ;)

My gear consists of a desktop and a laptop.

The only reason I have the laptop is because it was given to me by someone who's family member died.
Yeah. After all the years laptops were available I was finally able to get one in Dec of 2012....because someone died and their laptop was given to me for free.
Someone had to die.
Yeah.

Damn. No wonder I've had zero output since I shaved my head back in '02.
Time to grow it out and go back to just playing bass again.... back when I was able to make sounds happen.

Also...all this stuff!
Around about when did struggling artists become wealthy? :o
My studio has built-up over time. I have a lot of gear, but I am far from wealthy. A lot of it was bought when I was gigging regularly and getting paid. I'm good at finding bargains too.

Ouch. Yeah, there's always something worse in the world. I'm better off than others. :-/

Aw, dude. I didn't mean to make you feel bad. It was graveyard humor at it's most literal.

controlcentre, I've been into effing about with music since I was 15 in '90...since then I've acquired...a PC desktop ('07) that replaced the last of the top-of-the-line crt iMacs (I got in '02, which in early '05 became a useless and overpriced doorstop) and a PC laptop ('12)....which replaced exactly two cheap basses and a 100W Fender 15" amp. Hooray. I did more on those between '90 to about '03 than I've done with a ton of softsynths, samplers, etc. and full virtual studio from '04-ish til now. I used to play one instrument I could do nothing alone with... Now I 'have to play' everything, and have all such instruments at my beck and call and have finished not one single, even extremely simple, song in over a decade. Go, me. Yay.

Meanwhile, the Tiny Tomboy Princess has never, ever played softball....started softball without a parent to help her (since I hate all sports besides shooting) and has excelled beyond all and everyone's expectations in mere weeks.
It's enough to make me retreat into my other hobby: movie geekdom. At least there I can just...ya know...sit there and nothing else. Heh. :)

In so many of these pics I see monitors that are far too close to rear walls. I also see this in 9 out of 10 studios in youtube videos. You need almost any monitor at least 18 inches from a rear wall.

@ Jace-BeOS
I can identify with you getting triggered from Effexor...I was tripping for 1 yr off Nardil.
My mania was sorta mild, nothing like spending binges...just the normal waking up after just 4 hrs sleep knowing the universe and seeing syncronicities, not to mention knowing lyrics on the radio are meant to guide me...that only happened once. Your dick gets harder then Chinese arithmetic. :tu: I have a friend who is severely bi-polar, so I know the disorder`s negative side.

Sounds like you don`t have a friendly connection to equipment.
I have a friend who swears to that effect. Anything he touches commits suicide sooner or later.

I`m not gettin a feel for the real importance of that imo.

It's very important. It can be the difference between a boxy, crappy sound and how they're meant to sound. Try it - if you have a decent size studio space move them away from the wall in 2 or 3 inch increments and listen to the sound with each subsequent move (ensuring that you're in that 37% or so sweet spot - google that if you're not familiar). You should here the boxiness start to disappear and the bass start to sound more separated and natural etc. - just try it. Nearly all monitor manufacturers recommend at least 24 inches of space from any wall. There are a few that are designed to be right next to a wall.

 I`m so sorry. I spaced out and my brain thought video monitors. I should know too, I use Mackies with it`s rear passive radiator.

Nay worries :) There should be an industry standard way of differentiating 'monitors' from 'monitors' lol

That`s an interesting space. Like the box with the blue horn... a Dr.Seuss design no doubt.
Looked at many of your photos. Liked all the skinks and newts...the Johnny Rotten flute is awesome. :) Liked the 2 blocks of wood with nails. That`s good art.

Neat collection of gadgets. I'd love to know what all the acoustic objects are.

I'm not bipolar. I was coerced onto those drugs by my former "best friend" after my girlfriend of 7 years dumped me for someone else. I wasn't allowed to mourn. I did experience those weird "aware of the universe" things, though. I had them mildly earlier in life, but the psych drugging made it really wild. Like I was almost able to see the entire tapestry of human behavior to the point of predicting everything (I'm a pattern recognizer anyway). It made me extremely high-functioning autistic, on top of all the rest of the screwed up effects.

The Effexor really killed my sleep, making a lifetime mild sleep disorder into a disability. As well as the spending, I was very prolific with photography, as part of the impulsiveness. That's the only thing I miss.

 Yeah, exactly. It's even worse with computers & software. I'm kind of like this:

:hihi: makes me a fantastic beta tester (for developers that actually want to catch bugs).

The blocks of wood with nails are my daughter's creations. The Johnny Rotten flute is my son's school recorder. It was supposed to have his name on it but I was in a funny mood when I filled out the order form (wish I'd put Ornette Coleman on it now).
The thing with the blue horn is a current project: a 'no-fi' sound box - various mismatched speakers, an amp and mp3 player. it's not suitable for music - it's intended for noises, tones and drones.

Not sure where to start - I collect junk and build things that make noise but they rarely work as intended.
