There is a new Waves Central app out for installing and maintaining your plugins, if anyone cares.

Trouble is, many Mac users may have problems running it as I have found, and its bloody annoying. It turns out this is because of Apple's tight control on security in order to protect its system from potential threats. As a result the app may appear as "damaged" and won't run.

I don't know whether Waves is aware of this issue but I figured a way around it. Here are the steps if anyone is interested...

Goto System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Firewall and unlock it

Select Firewall Options, add Waves Central to "Allow Incoming Connections"

Close the System Preferences

You should be able to keep your security settings as normal and it will run. If you have issues getting this to work for you, try doing the following step first, because that's basically what I did to get it working.

Goto System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General and select the "Anywhere" option

Run the app, make sure it connects fine.

Quit, follow the steps mentioned earlier

Change your security settings back to their default and close the System Preferences.

The new Waves Central seems to be the WLC with a new skin, upgraded to include an installation process. It is definitely much improved with these changes that were also needed by many.

On the plus side, with the introduction of Waves Central it now means Mac users will no longer have to download the full Offline Installer to install only small handful of plugins.

About freakin' man, because that was also bloody annoying!!

Post

This now supercedes the WOLI installer ?

Post

You can still create your own offline installer using the new Waves Central.

Just in case somebody needs to roll back, links to latest full offline installers (r30) are still available on this Waves page.

Just downloaded to be on safe side.

Waves Central updated ALL of my plugins to 9.6 - even the ones that were no longer covered by WUP. Is that normal? I had thought that when WUP expires you could no longer get new dot releases.

I'm really confused by this - one reason I hesitate after getting email from Waves yesterday.

When I had an update of Gold, even though in wup at the time, I had to fetch a new 9.2 license for it to get the then added Vitamin to Gold bundle - or I got this screaming nag screens about license violation.

So now not in wup, this sounds scary and no go.

Without WUP plugins will still be updated in the same version (9.x) but will not be updated to a new major version v10.

This is normal. When WUP expires, you still get all updates until v10 comes out. Then you need to renew WUP to get v10, which does not mean you have to (if you are fine with your system and v9). Version v9 will still work when v10 comes out.

Thanks Andy. That makes sense now. If your WUP is expired, I assume you don't get new plugins if they are added to a bundle though, correct?

By the way I am running Yosemite and I didn't encounter any of those problems with Mac security, Simon. Are you running a different flavor of OS X?

Jackson881 - you need to update your WUP before you can get new version plugins in a bundle.

Welcome :) You are right. You can install an upgrade within v9 containing a new plugin, this plugin will report having no license, but others will work.

Still you can get this new plugin if you renew WUP. And there is no 'penalty' for any time gap between your WUP expiry and renewal, it is still capped (at least this is how it works for now).

I'm no fan of every developer having it's own app to manage it's plugins. I consider it unnecessary crapware that should be avoided. A simple installer like the Waves offline installer I'd take any day over any specialty apps.

Out of curiosity though I downloaded the new Waves Center and upgraded all my plugins. Overall I think it's pretty well thought out but I'm afraid that as so many users have had problems with their iq when using Waves installers and activation so far, I'm afraid it will be a huge nightmare for many.

If you get a nagging screen then the easiest solution is to just delete that particular plugin folder (like Vitamin) inside Waves\Plugins. Then everything works smoothly again and even if you are upgrading your plugins it will not be installed again.

Simon I've just tried installing Waves Central 1.0.1.2 which has just been released.
I can not open it once installed as I get a message saying "it is damaged and can't be opened" and that I should trash it.
I've tried that and reinstalling several times.

No change.

The fix you are suggesting is only relevant if you have your OS X system preference Firewall turned on, correct ?

I don't use my Firewall, it is Off.

I've reported the WC 1.0.1.2 "damaged" issue to Waves.

I didn't get the "damaged" message with the original version of WC.
The only problem I had and am still having is the slow loading of new instances of the 9.6 AU plugins in Logic 10.2, including about 4 or 5 secs of the dreaded spinning beach ball of death.

cheers

cheers

EDIT UPDATE: Ok just by going to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General and allowing Apps from Anywhere fixed the damaged file issue, while still having the firewall off.

Post

"Damaged" apps are often caused by Gatekeeper.

Try right-clicking on WC and choosing open from the popup menu. This whitelists the app from Gatekeeper's default security setting. You only need to do this once.
