I have seen the Korg Oasys on ebay for 250-300$. is that a better value then getting the powercore element for $500? Also, will Oasys work with Windows XP? My concern would be purchasing the Oasys and it not working with a current OS. Any insight on DSP cards is appreciated

Personally I'd rather have an Oasys than a Powercore but the big but is that it only runs on windows 9X systems - no win2k/XP drivers and no further development you see - pity.

I don't know much about the Oasys or Powercore, but I'm a big fan of CW Audio's (Creamware) cards. They're definitely worth looking into if you're thinkign of getting a DSP soundcard.

Don't forget the new EMUs with VST effects. I would never get any of those other cards, too pricy, and you never know when they would stop doing drivers. EMU will be around for a long time for sure. ;-)

Maybe is time that companies do an open-standard cards, that anyone can release a card that runs effects. Like some sort of universal format for DSP cards? Nahhh, I'm dreaming...

 That's the funniest thing I've read on here in awhile. Considering the EMu cards fall into the same general price range as the Pulsar Home, an Oasys off of EBay, or a good deal used on the PoCo or UAD-1... ummm.... WinME works perfectly fine on an old box I got sitting around to run my Oasys, and runs the risk of dying just like any keyboard I own too that's been discontinued. All the rest have XP drivers, and I don't believe XP is dying tomorrow either.
