I would love to sell MF3, but not sure who would buy it now that Falcon replaced it.

MOTU already said they won't be working on it (which makes sense, since as it's UVI's code):

At least Falcon will probably be 70% off in a few months like most UVI products.

Well, in light of all that, it would be really nice of UVI to offer a crossgrade deal. Of course they don't have to, but it would be cool of them.

I wish I would've done my homework with MachFive because software that involves more than one party almost always ends up like this.

UVI does have sales, but I wouldn't hold your breath for anything near a "70% off" sale on Falcon...at least for many years.

Sampleconstruct wrote:For me the most important novelties in Falcon are the new granular engine which finally supports multiple grain streams (a la Padshop Pro/HALion, adds different grain shapes and offers lot's of other grain controls, the main problem in the old granular engine was that each grain would fade in over time so percussive sounds were not possible, this has now been solved.

And there is the new model synth, similar to Chromaphone I would say where you can also use samples to excite the resonators, either following key or with a static pitch. I shall post some demos soon with sounds I made for the factory library.

And the new FX modules are awesome, so is the total GUI redesign. More info later...

So if you could only choose one, would it be Falcon or Halion 5 ;)? Not to put you on the spot or anything :hihi: .
As off today it would most probably be Falcon, the new multi-granular engine is almost up to par with H5 (although I still prefer H5's granular engine), but in all other aspects Falcon wins and it's scriptable too.
Thanks. I suppose I could sell MF3 to buy Falcon but then I'd lose access to the libraries I bought from you.
No, all MachFive libraries are fully compatible with Falcon, they would have been stupid to break their own system.
audientronic wrote:Okay, so I'd just lose the bundled ones then. Hmmm.
Sorry confused? I would be able to load Simons Libs but not the bundled sounds? Anyone know if you can load the Acoustic Samples scripted instruments that came with MF3?, I need another instrument like a hole in the head but would be willing to dump MF3 for falcon if I could keep all the content.

RIP MF4 but I kind of thought this was on the cards when the new UVI libs weren't compatible, hounded both MOTU an UVI about it and both parties pointed the finger at the other.

I hope library developers will get behind this one a little more.

No, my point was if I sold MF3, I'd be selling the bundled content and wouldn't be able to continue using it. Everything is compatible.

Jamming with my patch Asian Plucker from the Falcon factory library which combines the model synth with FM synthesis, no samples involved. The Modwheel changes the timbre of the model synth to a more flutish sound, softening the attack on top of that (at the end of the video) drastically changes the whole sound.

the scripting interests me - would it be possible to write generative midi algorithms and output individual channels to other instruments eg Kontakt. In other words just using Falcon as a scripting environment for generative (midi) music.

I was close to crossgrading to MF3, but other things took priority. I'm so glad now that I didn't do it. Also, sometimes being poor - or at least not being rich, does have its advantages. :)

I'm not looking to replace Kontakt, which already has a huge selection of libraries, but as Sampleconstruct said, this looks like a sound designer's dream. I'm definitely getting Falcon at the next paycheck. That is, if I manage to last that long.

Simon's examples are wonderful and have pushed me over the edge! :tu:

Improvising with my patch Ballad Plucker from the Falcon factory library. This patch also uses the model synth with a long waterfall percussion texture exciting the resonator, so when playing long sustained notes you will hear the resonating chimes moving in the stereo field.

I am sorry for that, yet happy

Since the Alchemy-replacement speculation is well underway, I'd have to say this looks to be a very different beast. Yes, it does a lot of the same things and covers some similar ground but this seems like a much more module based environment than the all-in-one instrument Alchemy was. All the oscillators, effects and mod sources here appear like distinct entities. Alchemy on the other hand was/is a more immediate 4-oscillator, 2 filter type affair, even with all the depth and options available within that structure.

This does look like an incredible instrument though, with some serious potential for sound design. Perhaps not instant enough for many uses, i can't say it looks very inviting for my composition workflow. As comprehensive as it, I'm not sure it offers much new to the table either, my bases are well covered by other instruments and i can't see anything this can do that i can't do with something i already own.

So no, in my opinion not an Alchemy replacement/substitute not that it should matter really. It is what it is, regardless of anything else. I'm sure many will love it anyway even if I'm not fussed by it.

This has probably been asked and answered but I couldn't find it - is it safe to replace UVI Workstation Player with this? (In other words, no loss of functionality, etc.)

Downloaded, authorized, installed, and all soundbanks from Vintage Vault, MF3, and my freebie choice World Traditions are now on the bank menu. Totally MF4. This thing is gonna be cool.
In rotation here: Helios- Eingya

Demo?

No demo, no Falcon for me.

I think the reason Motu MachFive don't sell that much is lack of a demo.

Yeah, you can do that much the same as in Kontakt - just the language is different.
Eanna wrote:Yeah. The LUA api only covers Midi generation, what they call "pre-synthesis data"... That's cool, but I do wish they extended it to allow programmatic access to automatable controls for example...
As is, it's nice, but nothing your DAW couldn't do really (in terms of Midi synthesis, before it hits the plugin)...
Yeah, you could get fancy with "intelligent chorders" and that...
It doesn't "just" cover MIDI generation, it can also remote control any engine parameter etc. Pretty much the same as in Kontakt, and then some.
