UVI FALCON - My comments on it & to those who actually OWN it, what do you think of it so far?

Maybe I am missing something, but is it not resizable in Cubase 6?
A heaping dose of outrageously goofy synth tracks, scores and chiptunes.

Is there a way to make BestService store to show in dollars and not in euros? It also shows with VAT and without VAT price- does VAT apply to United States? Last time I bought Titan from them- it showed something $10,000 on my invoice- freaked me out. But in bank statement it was something $200. This was way too stressful.

VAT does not apply to US. Your VAT will show nothing if you purchase and live in the US. Just did this myself and it's fine.Astralv wrote:Is there a way to make BestService store to show in dollars and not in euros? I dont know how anyone comes up with $209. It shows 239E minus 20E it would be 229E which will be even more in dollar- about $229 as they have it in the States. Am I missing something? Thanks.
Never mind. It did came down to $209. Must be VAT. Also it would not discount 2 items. I also wanted to order Ozone 6, which did not decrease in price with Falcon. Oh, well- may be another time...

Great review Paul! I concur!paulmatthew wrote:After a hiccup on my part trying to figure out how to load the synth oscillators , here is my first impression of Falcon :
PROS :
1)resizeable GUI as well as being able to hide the left and right menus is a huge plus
2) The sound quality is excellent and the filters are quite nice.
3) Incorporation of my existing UVI instruments was a piece of cake and I actually prefer to use the instruments in Falcon because they have new life now with all the added fx and features
4)Have not had a single crash , glitch or bug as of yet (only 4 hours of use so far)
5)I've read that you can import the wavetables from Serum into Falcon which will expand the synth's sounds
6)The GUI is clean and the module are tidy
7)The option to load a loop and set it a slices
8)CPU usage does not seem to be as bad as some other current VST synths
CONS:
1) Falcon can get busy in a hurry and trying to find things will take some time ( it will be a somewhat steep learning curve for beginners)
2) The menu system can be a bit much at times, back and forth .
3)I would prefer a drag and drop system for adding devices , samples etc. You can drag and drop some things but it would be much faster and easier to drag in what you want from a list.
4) Yes ,you can slice loops , but I would like to see more capabilities added for mangling loops or adjusting individual elements independently and easily . I plan to spend a lot of time figuring out what can be done in regards to this .
5) The manual is decent but does not go in depth much.
6)It would be great if there was an fx version of Falcon to be used in your DAW as a multieffect unit , but that is unavailable at this time . Maybe in a future update?
Overall , I'm glad I picked this up . It breathes new life into my existing UVI instruments as well as giving options for creating your own synths and making new instruments from samples . Many different types of synthesis incorporated into one machine , while having almost endless creative possibilities. The sound quality is very good and this is just the beginning of what is already a great synth workstation. Falcon is it's own blend of unique things though and really can't be compared with the likes of Serum and Kontakt as many are doing. On some levels it is a bit a both , but it is also something very different too. I can only imagine what the updates to Falcon will bring in the future .

Now that I have Falcon, I was finally able to purchase "Scattered Entity" and "Ambient Strings" from Simon at Patchpool http://www.patchpool.de/machfive.html REALLY, really great stuff I have to say! A lot of Simon's patches for Alchemy and Padshop made it on my last album, and many more, now with Falcon, will undoubtedly be utilized on the new one I'm currently writing. Simon told me that he will be developing more libraries now specifically for Falcon.....which make me very excited.
I never realized how powerful MachFive is. If these 2 libraries were Kontakt libraries, they wouldn't be half as interesting IMO. I can only imagine what can be done now with the upgraded Falcon abilities.

Any Falcon owners who also use HALion 5? I ask because I've used HALion for years, not the greatest sound engine but I know how to use it and can coax out some interesting sounds easily. Falcon and HALion seem to have a lot some similarities from a functional standpoint, but Falcon has more sound design choices, and the demo's sound very good. I always have HALion loaded up as a default in all my projects, and pair it with Alchemy a lot. With the introductory pricing Falcon could be a replacement for both (especially because Alchemy is not supported anymore).
I'm not familiar with UVI's products, Is Falcon's sound quality far better? (in or close to the same league as u-he synths?).
The GUI looks nice, but looks like it could get cluttered after adding in many layers and individual sounds, can the sections be "undocked" into separate windows like HALion?
Thanks,
x.

I am a Motu Mach Five 3 user and very interested to change to Falcon.
My questions: Can Falcon load the factory presets of Motu Mach Five 3?
I would be very happy for an answer.

Yes, it can, it loads all programs made with M5 without a problem as all old oscillators and filters are still on board.Gucky wrote:I am a Motu Mach Five 3 user and very interested to change to Falcon.

Isn't UVI known for their high quality sound engine? Didn't they used to power all of the old Spectrasonics instruments?

Correct.

Someone said it does not support multi-threading. So, how is the CPU load compared to, say, Diva or Xils stuff on the one hand and Sylenth on the other? If Falcon does not have zero-delay feedback filters, I suppose the CPU load should automatically be lower than Diva's.
How does it behave when one loads several, say a dozen, instances? Do they get spread across the available CPU cores? Do additional instances add up in a linear fashion or increase the CPU load just slightly?

Diva and Xils are doing realtime circuit modeling. Falcon does not. But it has other means with which it can gobble up CPU (IRCAM oscillators, Redux effect, unison, etc.)
Multiple instances do get spread over the cores, but that's not up to the plugin to handle, it's what your DAW is supposed to do automatically.
