Has anyone else notice some gain staging weirdness with AT4?
For one thing it seems I'm getting less input gain than in AT3. It's easy to compensate for, but odd.
Another oddity is that many stomps see to be way louder than in AT3, or maybe the legacy preset import thing translated them oddly. In general my presets were set up for almost the same volume when I hit a stomp, maybe a slight boost from some overdrives, but in AT4 they're WAY louder.
But the most totally odd thing is that that's only true on the first "page" of stomps. The second page is much more like AT3. I put a Pinnacle on the first page and the second, copied the settings from the first one into the second, and they're completely different volumes when you turn them on.
Seems like a bug. Don't know about the other gain things, but that seems just wrong.

I'm on the fence about buying this. I want to try the cab speaker features, but on the flip side, I want to save money for Toontrack's metal month, which they start releasing stuff for this Tuesday. (there's a new metal EZX and SDX coming). But on the flip side of that, I want to take advantage of AT4's intro price.

so AT4 has old *and* new cab sections in it? hm... a weird choice IMO. but OK, i can live with that.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but no I don't think so. Its just that if are using the free AT4 custom, then you see these same GUI that you see for AT3 basically. You can choose whatever cab you want from a pulldown list, they are all there. If you actually do a full upgrade to AT4...then in addition to getting some boring named and unbranded new amps and cabs, an acoustic emulation pedal and a better tuner; you also get a completely different screen for how to select all amps and cabs...both the new ones and old ones. The new way is more similar to the Live Room in digital performer, where you see a room and you see prett pictures of rooms to choose a different room size, and you see the cab sitting in the room with mics on stands in front of it and you can move the mic stand around and move the mic up and down on the mic stand. And you can also swap out the actual speakers in the cab with any other speaker from any of the other cab models you already own. All of that you could do before in AT3 but with a more boring and less intuitive GUI...except for the speaker swapping, that is new. And it does work on all of the models you own, new ones and old ones.Burillo wrote:so AT4 has old *and* new cab sections in it? hm... a weird choice IMO. but OK, i can live with that.
So basically if you use AT4 free, then you don't get that extra cool gui for the configuring the cabs..and you don't get the new base models. Otherwise, near as I can tell, AT4 free and AT4 are basically the same.

Eh, I'm going to buy it. I have a ton of Custom Shop purchases from AT3, which version would I need to get? Deluxe or the $99 version?

I don't know if there is a Deluxe? I bought the $99 version, $69 after using Jampoints. They are also selling one that comes with all the Mesa Boogie models for an extra $100 on top of that as a Bundle, will be more expensive after the promotional period ends.

Yes, there is now a Deluxe, for €299.99 (+VAT):
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitube4deluxe/
On that page, under "Other Included Gear", if I set the "Per page" value to 100, it lists 100 on the first page and 3 on the second. The other 12 models are those available in all AT4 products: the 5 new amps, 5 new speakers, UltraTuner and the “Acoustic Sim” model pedal.
So the question would be: are those 103 gear models good value for you or should you fill in the gaps individually?

leave it to IK to make the buying decision as complicated as possible.
To me that Deluxe looks like a lot of overlap if you ever purchased AT3 in the past and bought some models on your own, then you already own some of those models. That sounds like basically everything they currently have available..not sure if that includes all the branded models or not..which would be an important point to know. Needless to say, it would be an impressive setup with a lot of models to choose from. Way outside my price range for a guitar sim though. I've picked up a few models here or there over time, if you buy the models separately they will add up to a lot more then that Deluxe price. A LOT more.

So it sounds like if I already have most of the custom shop items, I should just get the $99 version? Does the Deluxe have any exclusive features over the $99 version?

Have to let peter respond about that, but no I don't think there are new features..just more models, a lot more.
I personally own most of the models I am interested in. Every once in a while they come out with one or two I might pick up, and that will continue to be the case I'm sure.

I'm wondering how this will work in the future. Will the new amp models and the new features always be tied together in one package, or will there be a way to just pick up the new features and just buy 1 amp (the red one is the only one I want). I don't think I'll wait long enough to find out but it's just a question..I'm looking toward a Christmas purchase. I'm ok with using the free for a while.DarkStar wrote:Yes, there is now a Deluxe, for €299.99 (+VAT):
