To the people storing patches, etc. in the My Documents folder on C: drive - what do you do when you have to reinstall Windows, and wipe your C: drive?
I always store anything I've created myself (as well as installing all applications) on other drives, anywhere but C: drive. That way I can reinstall Windows and not have to worry about losing anything (although I know that some programs and VSTs force stuff into the C: drive anyway.)

machinesworking wrote:It looks like a great product for sure. My only complaint is the way the crossgrade/upgrade to Falcon from MachFive 3 is being handled. They have an introductory price of $239, they've shut out every distributor but Best Service from offering any sort of discount on top of that intro price, and have yet to announce the 'late to the table' crossgrade/upgrade offer. We consumers are faced with a dilemma, upgrade tonight at roughly $202 and hope for some sort of retroactive compensation, likely another voucher for the UVI shop, -or- wait and see if UVI themselves offer something better, like a cash out the door intro plus upgrade cost of $150-175 for MachFive owners.

Mostly it's just frustrating that things aren't very clear. It would have been much less of a publicity blunder had UVI come out right away with an upgrade/crossgrade offer for MachFive owners. As evidenced in this thread there are still people convinced that MOTU are possibly coming out with MachFive 4 at some point, but still angry about Falcon for some reason?

I'm the hopeful type, so I'm about to pass up a $27 Best Service savings on Falcon with the trust that UVI do a little better, instead of just offering us more vouchers for their sample library. I like their libraries for the most part, but I could use the cash more than a voucher at the moment.
Why don't you be smart like me 8).

Purchase the gift voucher for €150 - €20. Then you have your discount and you can wait and see what the offer is. If it's something directly at UVI or not. Worst case you have €150 euro to use at Best Service and it cost you €130.

Maybe you get some kind of discount if registering Machfive at UVI before purchasing at other resellers. I don't know. But at least what I am suggesting is the best strategy I can come up ;-).

When did this promo start? I bought through Best Service and didn't get any voucher from them (AFAIK). Only the one from UVI.

Well, I backup everything onto an external drive anyway so I don't think it matters.

Hans, this is indeed clever! But especially for the folks who don't have MachFive. Because they can purchase a gift voucher with the halloween20 discount and then after they got it, they can purchase Falcon with the gift voucher and add another 20€ discount on the rest of the purchase sum. At least this could work.
As I already own MachFive 3 I'd rather wait for a crossgrade. But I'll write to UVI now and ask if they really are going to do this, because I need this info until the 9th, when the promo will end. Well IF it really ends then. :)

I am very interested in Granular synthesis and what I have heard from various sources granular is capable of great ambient pad sounds.

Now, my question to you who understand granular, especially to Simon Stockhausen, what am I going to choose? UVI Falcon, Steinberg Halion 5 for beautiful pad sounds.

I think that I read somewhere that Halion 5 has the better or smoother granular engine for pad sounds, is that true? I have tested the Padshop Pro and I could not get smooth pad sounds out of it, my inexperience may be the cause?

Simon Stockhausen! I love your sounds for Halion and MachFive, great programming there.

Thank you for the flowers!

With the Falcon update, HALion 5/PSP certainly have gained a strong competitor, as Falcon now supports multiple grain streams and offers various grain shapes and other controls for shaping the grains. I still slightly prefer HALion's granular engine, as it has longer grain tomes and some other things which would be too nerdy to explain here and now. But in all other departments Falcon has gone far beyond HALion's capabilities -> quality and amount of FX, filters, synthesis types, modulation system, scriptable interfaces and more.

So now it's time for Steinberg to update HALion. Padshop Pro is also great for granular synthesis as it share the same engine as in HALion (with somewhat reduced features, but the same sound), but it's far more limited in it's possibilities (filters, LFOs, FX).

Here are some tutorials on granular synthesis using all sorts of apps and plug-ins, in case you want to learn some more.

That very clever thinking but there is a tiny problem. You can only put one voucher-code at a time. And when you convert the voucher to money you have to insert the voucher-code and then you can't add the voucher €20 on top. The only way to do this is to buy 2 x €150 Voucher cards in two different purchases. Then contact Best Service and ask to get the two transferred to one code of €300 instead. The problem with this is that you won't get a refund. So you have to find something to add from the €180/200 up to the €300. I asked them a few weeks ago if you would get a refund for the rest. But you don't. If you only purchase for €200 you loose the €100 :scared: And that's not so smart.

That's the promo I used, but I didn't receive any voucher from Best Service - just the discount.

EDIT: I got it. I had to purchease a gift voucher previously. I think it would not work for me. So, I did what was the best in my position, getting just the discount.

Thanks Man!

I think I go for the Falcon, the price is just right and I really hope UVI makes great updates in the future, soon I will fly with the Falcon!

Well I only did it to gain time. Hopefully UVI reveals the offer this week and then the discount is still available from the voucher-code even though the Halloween offer from Best Service ends today.

basslinemaster wrote: Re the cheapest price, somebody here said that the best place if buying from Europe was Best Service, but if you buy from JRRShop it comes out at $229 - I haven't bought it yet, but I've got to the Paypal log in page, and it still says $229, so I presume it isn't going to add any more, and that equates to just under £150. Best Service's 239 Euros equates to around £171 - so if I actually log into my Paypal account, will the JRRShop site then add 20% VAT to make it £180?
Sorry to quote myself, but nobody else on this thread has mentioned JRRShop's price, which is $229, which equates to just under £150, cheaper than Best Service. Is this correct? It's just that the last few pages have been about people getting a slight discount on Best Service's price, but it still costs more than getting it straight from JRRShop, without any need to buy a gift voucher.

With the voucher the price is about €183 without VAT. That's cheaper than JRR-Shop.
