Has it been reviewed by them yet?

Here on KVR. Things like installer issues and sound library items missing (?). Others? I don't know all of the issues. I'm not one of the reporters, just a watcher. But the upgrade price has me curious.Dewdman42 wrote:what issues and where are they reported?

I was one who had those issues but for me at least I did manage to get the plugin working in the end (except their command centre software is now broken on Mac, again, but I managed to authorise it when it was working for a while).

I don't get what Cakewalk is doing with their Command Center - like they are trying to invent the wheel again.
There are endless of installers and download managers, and it does hardly resemble any of them and do it worse. You still cannot simply check what parts to operate on and leave it to complete. You are stuck with these fixed buttons of alternatives to do one at a time.

Hm, sounds familiar. I read something similar here not long ago. But i figure that doesn't help you much really... all i remember is that it was quite a trivial to solve problem.aMUSEd wrote:Amusing error message

Why is there even an installer? Why is there a command center? Why can't it just be:
• a plugin file (one per format) to drop onto shortcuts for the appropriate folders
• a standalone app (to put wherever)
• a folder of library content to similarly drop where needed and then configure the app/plugin to look where you tell it to
(Example: https://www.google.com/search?q=mac+ins ... MmCh24rQ2h)
???!!!

Rapture Pro explicitly invokes the Command Center application to report back to the main application whether or not the user has authorized the Rapture Pro software. I think Cakewalk wants to eventually use the Command Center to authorize all of their offerings. If they centralize installation and authorization to one application, it simplifies support for them. Aside from not being able to select down to the individual items and plugins to install, the biggest problem I have with the Cakewalk Command Center is that it tries to impose the installation location of everything. I like to install my software to custom locations (including the location of the Cakewalk Command Center itself, which causes problems with Rapture Pro unless you make the appropriate fix to a Windows registry entry).
Some may argue that Windows UAC has reduced the number of places where one can reliably install software (the machine-wide and system directories have become unusable to prevent against infection/corruption from malware. Part of the -problem is that many Windows audio software and drivers have been written to require elevated privileges; one should not have to run as the System Administrator to install and/or run an audio application.
To recap, Rapture Pro is tethered to the Command Center application; without it, it will only run in Demo mode. It seems as though the folks who run hacked/pirated copies of the software have a better user experience than us legitimate users; they are insulated from the copy protection/authorization hoops the software normally has to jump through.

Except Rapture Pro isn't yet cracked, AFAIK.

Ok in a moment of weakness I did pick up that upgrade on sale for $59. I want to report my experience.
- This was OSX
- The install was not that painful in a simple sense. Run the command center, it installed everything, it authorized, it all worked. However, it did not pickup a commercial 3rd party rapture expansion I bought in the past. It doesn't find it at all from the location it was found under old Rapture Content folder mixed with all the old Rapture Content.
- For various reasons after mucking around with the data folder and trying to get my 3rd party expansion in there, I decided I wanted to reinstall the whole thing. I found that running the Command Center installer when the Command Center App was already there, caused the failure message that aMused displayed above. Which I did not find amusing at all until I realized that I already had command center and I just ran command center again and it reinstalled rapture Pro no problem.
- They moved the location of the data folders to something new compared to old Rapture and DimPro. I don't see how they will ever be picked up by Rapture Pro to use. I can try to move those .prog files to the new data location, but its quite likely that some references to multi samples will be incorrect if the multi samples are moved also..I'm no sure yet, I have to play around some more, still haven't gotten it to work right. The other thing is, in order to use my expansion, I guess I may have to keep duplicate multi samples lingering on my system since the .prog files for that expansion point to multi samples under the old Rapture Content folder...and not under the new location used by Rapture Pro. If I even get it to work at all, so far I haven't been able to.
- I think cakewalk will eventually get this sorted out, but I have to say, I would almost rather be using the old Rapture, just so that my expansions are working correctly. I like the new GUI and I like that installer even works at all, and that its 64bit. I had Rapture 1.22 working on OSX Mavericks, but now when I went back to try to install it again, had major installation problems, it was complaining that my valid serial number is not valid and won't let me even install it. I remember in the past I had to figure that out and I finally did, but now I can't remember what I did. That is one reason I wanted to move forward with Rapture Pro in order to have clean and easy and SUPPORTED installs as I upgrade OSX in the future. The old Rapture was not supported anymore really. But at least it read my expansions and the new one does not....which is just dumb.
- I have to say, all the complaints about cakewalk doing screwball things with the way this plugin is configured in terms of directory structures, finding existing expansions and locating multi samples if need be, etc.. leaves a lot to be desired. Its still a cool synth, and the basic factory content sounds good and I do like the GUI better, but really they have made the upgrade very unsatisfactory. I'm happy its 64bit at least. I may try to remember how to get the old rapture installed again just to use for my expansion pack, since the new one seems to ignore it. The old rapture was working perfectly fine with a 32bit bridge before I rebuilt my mac recently. No garauntees that will continue to be the case if and when I upgrade OSX to El Capitan or whoever, so its still a good idea to upgrade to Rapture Pro, but Cakewalk's distribution team did not do very good on this, I have to say

I also have to say, Rapture Pro loads presets VERY slowly...particularly for ones using larger samples.
That's not a complete deal breaker, but just something to be aware of...it doesn't give you a progress indicator while its loading either, you just kind of sit there and wait with a delay until it will make sound. In comparison, Omnisphere2 loads presets very quickly, with similar sample foot prints I would guess.
Yea all in all, I have to say...this was not my best purchase, Rapture Pro has issues, as others tried to say earlier, I have to say..its true. At least I have a supported version now so maybe Cakewalk will improve it, we'll see
