There was a rather different view when there was an unlocked door at Beat earlier this year.
The forum concesus then was that it was a free for all

Well, that's the way it is. Don't expect ground breaking morals on the net. Most people who scream PIRACY when there's a warezed plugin of a small company don't have a problem uploading their Youtube holiday videos which they made with their warezed copy of Sony Vegas Pro either.

Which product was that? I mostly recall the forum frowning upon advertising how to get any products this way.Numanoid wrote:There was a rather different view when there was an unlocked door at Beat earlier this year.

Realistically, I can't imagine Bitwig or Beat really care. Bitwig is glad to have more people with the software since it's basically advertising for them. Beat likely makes the bulk of it's money via advertising...not selling magazines. I suspect they use the number of serial numbers requested to help set advertising fees for upcoming magazines. More people requesting codes means (theoretically) more money for Bitwig and more money for Beat.

Maybe those subscribing to the mag care, or wonder why they need to subscribe to get stuff?jsp1979 wrote:Realistically, I can't imagine Bitwig or Beat really care.
The articles in the mag are OK, but I wouldn't buy the mag just for those.

Human desire for more doesn't make taking ok in all situations. If one feels OK to take this, that is their choice. But, either way, please don't confuse 'forum consensus' for 'correctness' in any means of the term.
All the people looting from stores in a riot aren't correct even though the mob consensus is it being correct to do so.
Perhaps they really don't care either way, but it seems no one asked.. just entered and took.

I just saw on FB that Beat also gives away Tracktion 5 to subcribers, I wonder if only new subs, or those already in sub?

Beat's serialcenter website is for the registered customers of Beat. I bought several Beat mags and special issues, including the issue with mentioned 8 track.
Probably You can get some software from this site even when You don't have the magazine, but "Beat versions" are usually not available on the net. For example, I didn't found anywhere an installer for Xils 3 BE, Dune BE or other exclusives.
And I got Tracktion 5 for free with latest Beat Studiobibel. Probably they ordered a whole train of it at Mackie

As an alternative to Beat magazine, there's an offer from Nektar for Bitwig 8-Track here:
http://www.nektartech.com/bitwig-8track
Click the 'buy' button at the bottom of the page and fill in the form.
Edit: apparently this is for registered customers only. Would be nice if they actually said that on the page, especially as it's the first non-bitwig.com link that comes up when you google 'Bitwig 8-Track'.

Got this mail straight back from Nektar:
We have received your claim for Bitwig 8-Track which you are eligible to if you are a Nektar product owner. Our system was not able to match your claim with a valid product registration however but if you can send me the model and serial number, I can get this corrected.

i was waiting for a stripped down version, because a demo version doesn't have any appeal to me. i need to save stuff, when i have enough and go on later. daw demo versions, where you can't save or time restricted demos are not for me unfortunately, but this 8-Track is exactely, what i need, to try out Bitwig and to eventually buy the vst unrestricted Studio version.
the discussion, if it is free or magware, is stupid, because magware is always promoware. i bought a lot of licenses after having used the magware. and ... now Tracktion 5 is magware, but i bought an upgrade license, when it came out. should i have a rant against the company or against the mag now? useless.

Good stuff if it works for you.
I also found the approach quite interesting that, when you cross the version's limitation, it falls into demo mode, so you can go on working with the full version if you choose to purchase it.
