One Synth Challenge #81: Oxe FM (z.prime wins!)

I was planning on participating this month, but I just can't get any stability out of Oxe FM on Mac/El Capitan. The knobs are glitchy and cause UI graphics issues in Renoise (not to mention the VST crashing every now and then) and for whatever reason it seems to cause odd instability issues in Bitwig too. Sad, because this appeared to be a really functional little FM synth, and the single page interface is much nicer to use than FM8.
Anyway, good luck to everyone and hopefully I'll be back in the game next month!

Ah yeah, I'm on Mac... thanks nonetheless!
Looks like some others in this thread were having issues with Renoise and Oxe... so I'll wait to see if there are any updates in the next few weeks.
Is there a way to contact the developer? It'd be a shame to miss the OSC with such a neat little synth like this..

Hey y'all, first time trying this out, hopefully it'll go well. I'm sorry if there's a better thread for this, but I was wondering how far we are allowed to go with side chain compression on these. The rules say nothing that dramatically alters the sound, but it's not really clear if stuff like having the volume of a track get audibly manipulated by another really counts.

And I have always fun re-making the DX7 strato-tron sound on each FM synth I get my hands on.zerofox97 wrote:I always seem to go and try to make the famous "Soundtrack" patch in pretty much any synth I try recently.

You can go all the way, if you like, but the time I tried that, I got numerous comments complaining about it and got slaughtered in the voting.mascotbeaver104 wrote:Hey y'all, first time trying this out, hopefully it'll go well. To save presets do you have to replace existing presets or can you add more banks?
I have to wonder if this really an appealing aspect of legacy hardware to emulate... button based preset saving

No, it's kind of silly. It's just a lot of work to make an awesome preset browser...LuxLucid wrote:To save presets do you have to replace existing presets or can you add more banks?

It doesn't have to be a flashy browser, just a file based system. So I take it that's a no to adding more banks...z.prime wrote:No, it's kind of silly. It's just a lot of work to make an awesome preset browser...

I just use my DAW's preset mechanism. ere2learn demonstrated this for Reaper earlier in the thread and Studio One can do it too, so probably all the expensive DAWs can as well...LuxLucid wrote:It doesn't have to be a flashy browser, just a file based system. I did read that, I have just never had good luck with it on moth synths. I'll give it a trypsmacmur wrote:I just use my DAW's preset mechanism. ere2learn demonstrated this for Reaper earlier in the thread and Studio One can do it too, so probably all the expensive DAWs can as well...
