I think the wavetable synth just depends on decent wavetables/single cycles to sound good, I can't see it sounding less “smooth“ (whatever that means) than other wavetable synths I have programmed. If you use harsh/strange wavetables it will sound harsh/strange, if you use organic tables it will sound warm and “round“ (whatever that means).
Here is one combing the WT with an FM, the FM synth uses an arpeggiator on layer level for the groove/velocities, no pitch sequence applied. 8 Macros are automated plus the Modwheel:

After trying to import different kinds of samples, single cycles and wavetables from both Codex and Serum (from the Serum demo) into the wavetable oscillator of Falcon (by drag & drop of teh WAV files from the Windows Explorer) i found that so far only teh Serum wavetables seem to result in a proper wavetable.
All other WAV files seem to result in a single waveform being imported.
I guess thsi was alraedy mentiond earlier in this thread.
After that i tried to export a few of my custom Wavemapper 2 wavetables in Audio Term using the Serum output format. Again no luck to load this as a proper wavetable in Falcon.
Also tried to export it as a WAV wavetable in Audio Term with 32-bit (float), 2048 samples per waveform and 64 waveforms in the table. Again no luck to import this properly as a wavetable.
So the only way to create proper custom wavetables seems to be using Serum? Will try to check that with the demo version of Serum.
Importing single cycle waveforms into Faclon is no problem. This works nicely so far.
Saving the wavetables as a preset in the wavetable oscillator seems to work too. This will not appear in the list of the other wavetables but in a drop down menu at the upper right of teh wavetable module (right to the "menu" button).
UPDATE:
The problem seems to be solved (see my post below), many thanks to fmr. The solution seems to be to add the waveform size (e.g. "2048" for 2048 samples) at the end of the file name ofr the WAV file to be imported. Now i am able to create custom wavetables wit hAudio Term or export my existing wavetables for other synths (e.g. Wavemapper 2, DUNE 2) to a format compatible with Falcon.

You have to rename the wavetable appoending the number of samples (in this case it would be "wavetable_2048.wav". That way, it will import the whole wavetable, not only the first wave. It worked for me, and I successfuly imported several Wave-Term wavetables into Falcon.Ingonator wrote: Also tried to export it as a WAV wavetable in Audio Term with 32-bit (float), 2048 samples per waveform and 64 waveforms in the table. That´s right but i just mean the interpolation when you morph between different waveforms. There is always a kind of stepping in Falcon where i like it more smooth... means others seems to have maybe a much higher resolution when morphing between waveforms. It doesn´t matter if it´s a harsh or organic waveform. Even morphing from organic to a harsh waveform can sound very "smooth".
But it´s not the world´s end of course!

many thanks for the hint. This indeed works now.
I have renamed one of the wavetables i exported with Audio Term (with the Serum output format), renamed and imported into Falcon. Now the whole wavetable seems to be there.
Strange thing is that with the Serum wavetables adding the number to the file name does not seem to be necessary. Maybe this is included in the file header there?
Got Falcon yesterday so still lots of things to discover. I already created my own init patch for doing my own patches.

Pardon my intrusion (and perhaps lack of certain knowledge
):
how does this compare to e.g. Zebra2, synthesizer capabilities wise. (thus leaving the sample based features out of the scope)
As for FM synthesis:
How is Falcons FM capabilities compared to, say: Zebra2, SY-77, FM8?
Can i e.g. make those famous sounds in falcon too? (i understand it has 15 osc's max.. that would mean e.g. 15 fm osc's combined if i wanted to?)
I ask these questions, because i am in doubt on what to buy

It has 15 different OSC.... i think you could layer as much as you like if you computer don´t burn down then.rogiervg wrote:And how does this compare to e.g. Zebra2, synthesizer capabilities wise. (thus leaving the sample based features out of the scope)

Synth wise..... Zebra 2 is in a class of it´s own (like other synth only tools too). They all are additions, no replacements!
What i miss f.e. in Falcon is that i can´t fine tune each seperate operator. But with 4 operators and a lot different (12 i think) algorithms it is not bad. If you add all that other things.

FWIW, next version will have a better support of .wt wavetable

I still can't decide... (arghh no demo, and an intro offers ending tomorrow!)
if you already have things like Komplete, so Kontakt (sample), ML Aalto (VA/Waveguide), Kaivo (granular/pm), PPG Wave-generator (wavetable), AAS synths (PM), U-he synths (so Diva for VA)
What does Falcon add?
seems the above has all the 'parts', but is it greater than the sum of the parts? or ease of use? but arguably the above are more focused so better at the one thing they do, no?
its why I tend to use the above rather than the more general synths I have (Alchemy/Zebra)
... Im sure many of you are in a similar position, so why did you jump on Falcon?
I don't have Omnisphere, but have been very tempted... so falcon as a similar vane is what sparked my initial interest... I think the attraction is layering sampling with other synthesis methods (though this is possible in Alchemy too)
(genre: mainly more downtempo/moody almost ambient stuff, but not really the only thing i do)
a couple of specific questions:
- managing of presets... is this its own format, i.e. not just aupresets etc.
- its multi-timbral, so does this you mean you can save individual parts, and also all parts as one?
- I dont have any UVI libraries... do I have to starting buying into these to make good use of Falcon?
I don't really want to start buying into lots of libraries... but concerned it may not have many base samples to work from (for my own presets... unlike Omnisphere which comes with lots
... of course if MPE is going to be supported, this all becomes a 'no-brainer'

So, i used the voucher and put a few bucks on top and got the FX sound library. Imported into Falcon...
WTF! Awesome!!
The kind of sci-fi-alien-invasion-rythmic-world´s end stuff you can create then! I love it!
The big bummer is only i would like to load those samples easy and fast into the multi-granular OSC f.e.
without those annoying workarounds.

Anyone know why some folders placed in places seem to lose their folder status when you reopen Falcon? eg If I make a link to Simon's libraries that one sticks, but if I make one to the recent VSP one, next time I open Falcon it has turned into an unopenable icon.

OK I thought it was a bug but what is different between the folders? Why does one work and one not? Or is it just that 2 is the limit?

There was a bug when you create a new favorite/place when you were already located in a favorite/place.aMUSEd wrote:OK I thought it was a bug but what is different between the folders? Why does one work and one not? Or is it just that 2 is the limit?
