a question to DUNE 2 users...

I never owned Dune 1 so I can't comment on it. All I can say is Dune 2 is one of my favorite VSTs to the point where I made my own sound library for it which I have only done for a handful of the hundreds of VSTs I own.
Take that for whatever it's worth to you.
In short, you won't regret getting it.

See, that's the thing. For people who have no idea about the music, or the sounds used in it, it will all sound the same.2ZrgE wrote:What are 'typical EDM sounds'?recursive one wrote: At least in my experience, it cannot compete with Spire, Sylenth or Massive in making typical EDM sounds.
I'm sure that Dune2 is more than capable of all those annoying noise you can hear in every other EDM production nowadays.
Dune 1 and 2 sound pretty different too btw. Don't know where the thought of those being similar comes from. It's pretty easy actually, Dune 2 features the Dune 1 2-pole and 4-pole lowpass filters. Just compare those to the new filters, the ones in Dune 2 are a massive improvement. Same for the unison sound, and the general sound of the oscillators. They share a similar character though, which is obvious enough if it's part 2 of the synth. I agree with recursive one in that i prefer other synths for EDM typical sounds. Dune 2 is ok at that, but not the best i've heard. Tbh, i don't feel like i need Dune 2 as i have other synths which are up the same road, but have a more pleasant character for me. I wished those had the Dune architecture though, because that's where Dune really shines, it's just so easy to make sounds.

The question then is: Does it make a difference what synth to use? For the producer of course, but for the consumer?chk071 wrote:See, that's the thing. Are EDM songs made witout Spire, Sylenth or Massive but with Dune2 only worse in quality? Do they sound 'less EDM'? Where's the place for all the other good synths?
It's all speculation because mostly no one knows what famous EDM producers really use, not to mention the importance of FX processing.

Oh, there are a lot of production videos from very popular producers. And they mostly use Sylenth1, Massive, and Spire is pretty popular as of late too i think. Armin van Buuren in one video mentioned also Dune 1 and Synthmaster when he listed some of the synth he used. But for the leads, supersaws, pads and stuff like that, Sylenth1 is probably still the most used. You can even hear that when you closely listen to some tracks. Sylenth1 has some signature pluck sound and supersaw sound. Again, if you have an idea of the music, and listen closely. For people who don't, it's just all the same, and you can just replicate it with any synth. Well, if that would be true, the producers of the music WOULD just use any synth... it's as always a question of quality.2ZrgE wrote:The question then is: Does it make a difference what synth to use? Yes, Dune2 is rather new, it's always difficult to compete when the market is dominated by Sylenth and the likes for such a long time. I myself stick to the stuff I know best, totally understandable.

I don't think it's really relevant what is used by this or that famous guy (this famous guy may pretty much be unaware of it himself unless he asks the people who are actually writing his tracks
). It comes down the the character of the synth which everyone can hear for him/herself. Today EDM (in the broad sence, any danceable electronic music) needs synths with solid punchy sound and strong presence for making the main parts, Dune2 is not such a synth (to my experience at least)
I once made a psytrance track where Dune2 was used for all synth parts. Although it has received mostly positive feedback on some forums (including the Music Cafe) I decided that I will never use Dune 2 as a main synth in psytrance, I've spent way too much time for external processing of most sounds, and still it sounded may be close but definitely no cigar (maybe my shady production skills of course, but I get better results with other synths).
But any time I need a big pad, or delicious airy keys, something big, sweet and mellow, I load Dune2 and get there instantly.

You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

An experimental free patch bank for Dune 2.... no EDM (but that would work too maybe
).
I´m still a noob here but maybe it can inspire some to create better ones beside EDM
Nothing to loose it´s free...
