If you could only pick Hive or Spire for bass, leads, and pads ... or whatever sounds you make in the music you produce.

It depends on what sounds you're into. If you like traditional Sylenth-ish sounds, go for Hive. If you like to experiment once in a while with wavetables or FM, go for Spire.

Spire to me seems much more versatile. Only reason I haven't bought is because I'm trying to keep my synth count down. Damn powerful synth though.

Yep. And i favor the sound of Spire by far to Hive. Hive has some metallic touch i strongly dislike.Echoes in the Attic wrote:Spire to me seems much more versatile.

Hard pick as I really like both. I guess I'd have to go with Spire but I'm already feeling sorry I did

I hate dilemas like these. May be that's why I have both. ...and in long a run not too much money on my account.

What a letdown! I expected some wiseguy to chime in with "Sylenth".
I can run twice as many instances of Hive as I can Spire. Both sound great and truly depends on your needs.

wow what a toss up. Couldn't tell you. Hive has an edgier rock and roll grimy kind of thing, spire is that cleaner mainstream dance music sound. Spire has more options and headed for a major update, but IMO hive has a sound that is rare and hard to find in the plugin world. the biggest issue I have with hive is the GUI colors actually. I hate looking at that electric blue and pumpkin orange glow in the dark colors personally. I find it really difficult to let go of the sound though. Tough call. hive is one of those definite love/hate affairs. It grows on you over time, and gets more intense. Spire has peaked early for me and now it's the new norm. I'll tell you what I DON'T like about Spire. I have never been able to wrap my head around Spires envelopes. Then again I have the same problem with Hives LFO's...
I think it comes down to what sound you are after actually. I'm sure in the long run Hive will be supported longer than Spire...
I think I might be willing to trade Spire for Dune 2 actually.

Spire without doubt.
Spire sounds great and fits very well in the mix and I have used Spire in a lot released tracks. So I have some experience with this synth. Some people saying Spire would sound a bit "too digital".. but in the context of a complete track it works great. It remembers me a bit of the Nord Lead.. this synth has not such a big sound and alone without FX it's a bit thin.. but in the mix... amazing!
Hive... demoed it a lot and compared it with similar sounds from other synth. I don't know, there is something with the sound I don't like. Maybe it's a "U-He" signature sound
But the interface is very good.

Having envelope one hardwired was a problem for me from day one. It doesn't work on this instrument. It's architecture makes it uncomfortable and odd to control. For instance, if I assign envelope one modulation destination as oscillator amp, or even assign it to envelope one....all of a sudden it becomes a spider web of "I don't know wtf is going on anymore." They don't behave like I would like them to either. It's difficult for me to get the response I want out of them. I don't have the visual feedback. It becomes a guessing game.

Same with Hives LFO's though like I said. It's easy to lose control. Easy to lose your way.
