Physical plates intrigue me. Given the rectangular shape from the first glance it would look as if plates would have strong resonances at frequencies of speed of sound over width or length, yet they don't seem as ringy (maybe because the frequencies are something about 2.5kHz to 4.5kHz?). Did anyone try something like trapezoidal or any kind of irregular-shape plates?
Yet to try a plugin, I'm sure it's great and I'm definitely buying it at some point, but to me even without plugins I'm greateful to Sean for all the wonderful information he gives and for the way he does it! It's certainly is inspiring to see the man being a true fan of his craft.

Another case of "I was pretty sure I don't need another reverb but I bought it anyway" here...
I really like that it is even simpler than VVV and that the floats are formatted as "%.1f" instead of "%.2f" which I find quite silly in a musical device (except the mod rate, that's still "%.2f". Perhaps in an update

)

Btw can anyone tell me how to say that correctly in English, the number of digits behind the "."? It is "Nachkommastellen" in German. Is it "decimal places"?

Epic plugin, I can finally get that sound!! I knew there was something else going on with the width I was hearing on tracks using the real deal, the stereo is just different and that width control confirmed my thoughts.

Sean, I saw your post on GS about some tips using it, I saw you recommended using from 100-200% for the last 3 modes going for a chamber sound but would it still be 'genuine' (if one is attempting to stick within classic parameters) to go past 100% in the regular plate modes?

Also, did plates not have that mode where you can pan the reverb via send and the reverb would only come from that location it was panned to? I've read up a bit on that but I always get confused...

The mod rate is the one parameter in Plate that needs the higher number of decimal places. When the mod depth is at 100% (which can sound good in ValhallaPlate), the different between a mod rate of 0.1 Hz and 0.15 Hz is pretty significant.

Otherwise, yeah, why have an 0.67 second decay? 0.7 works just as well. Especially in a plugin where that is the decay rate for some arbitrary frequency. Plates had a notoriously loose definition of decay time - it was just markings on a label that surrounded the wheel which adjusted the damping plate.

"Genuine" is pretty much at 100%. That's it. Anything else is either artificially enhanced, or narrower than a real plate. That said, I'm OK with genuine, artificial, whatever works for people.

If you had a mono plate (i.e. one output), or one output from a stereo plate, you could pan this wherever you wanted. For ValhallaPlate, you would want to run it on a mono send, and select the mono-in, mono-out option in your DAW. This is essentially one of the output channels of the plugin, and replicates the mono-out of a plate. Follow up ValhallaPlate with a panner, and you can put it wherever you want in the stereo field.
