Like many Falcon users I have a coupon to use within 2 months but am unsure what to use it on. A lot of the stuff on the UVI site doesn't really interest me that much as I tend not to like sample based versions of vintage synths (with a few exceptions for some synths that themselves were sample-based but even then there are limitations) - I prefer actual emulations. However there are a few packs that may interest me, in particular the Orchestral library looks interesting, there's also a Toy library, a world instruments one and a gongs one, also maybe the Mellotron one. Ideally I would have liked something along the lines of Biosphere (which I have) but I can't see anything like that (I have XTreme FX). So how do these stack up?

A few of us have asked this question in the Falcon thread but they keep getting lost in everything else so I thought a separate thread would make more sense.

Post

The Mellotron one has been given away a few times over recent years by UVI, so perhaps they will again, can't guarantee it but it would be a shame to waste a voucher on one that may be given away again.

Mellotron and Digital Synsations appears constantly as gifts from UVI.

Yeah I got Synsations as a freebie from a JRRShop purchase - but as I said I can't see the point of a sampled vintage synth, even though the D50 for example was sample based, I can't program new sounds with the one in Synsations in the same way as I could with a D50 beyond basic adjustments, although it does have some nice sounds I find it too limiting. It makes more sense for the Mellotron though which was pretty much just a basic sample payer anyway.

The EGP Yamaha CP-70 really interests me, but even with the voucher I find it a tad too expensive. Does anyone else have this who can comment on it?

Wondering the same thing. i, too am not at all interested in samples of vintage synths or anything like that. i like weird, strange stuff in the way of samples so that kinda leaves me with Gongs, Toy Museum (significantly overpriced i think), maybe percussion store (but i have a lot already and don't want to go over the $100)...

Gongs i suppose (i have been wanting some, actually.) They don't give this one away do they?

If they give the Mello again i am on it.

I'm also in the same boat. I don't have XTreme FX, however. How would you rate it? Would that be the pack of choice if I don't have it yet?

Also...If you guys haven't gotten these yet, there's a few free UVI samples floating around that might have escaped your attention ;)

With the 30% off storewide discount, it seems like as good of a time as any to revive this thread.

I am currently eyeing the following:

EGP
IRCAM Prepared Piano
IRCAM Solo Instruments

Can anyone who owns any of these give some feedback on them?

Post

I'm curious how IRCAM Prepared Piano compares to Soniccoutre's Xtended Piano?

I'm eyeing EGP also and wish someone who owns it would comment.

Hello,
keep your money for something else,

I own
Falcon
Machfive
IrcamPiano
and all the MOTU libraries

Again spend a lot of money leading me into complete frustration.
Nothing is better, the same problems with the instruments and the sounds as in the past with the MOTU products and as a cost-free add on poor slow customer support.

At the IrcamPiano it seems not possible to use an envelope for adjusting the attack of the instrument?

At the Falcon still loosing connection to the sound banks, or could not load the preset or multi at the first go and the presets that were made by "big" names are not really big, will say more little.

Samples from the libraries have to be exported one by one if you find some that seems useful and you want to use them further.

So again - keep your money!

Will stop here because we are on KVR,

I could not forget Struck Grand Piano as i had not noticed it in the first place  but thanks for pointing it out. My curiosity about the IRCAM PP comparison with Soniccoutre is because i have the Soniccoutre vsti and i like it quite a bit, But, if there was enough of a difference or addition to be had i might want to get the IRCAM (or maybe EGP.) I am now eyeballing the Soundiron, the EGP, and the IRCAM! I doubt i "need" any more prepared piano especially with my budget right now. Of course if money were no object i would buy all three! Since money is an object i will likely go with Spirit of Gongs as I have very little in the way of Gongs but i really like the sound. OK, i know it's weird, but i would like to have the electric toy museum, too.

I'd like to hear any comments about the UVI soundsets in general as i have no expeience with them but i now have Falcon and a $100 voucher.

You can adjust bow, ebow and mutes envelopes in the Settings page.
For other playing mode, this is a Prepared Piano, so it's not something that you would be able to do on a real one, hence it's not possible directly in the product either.

You can add this in Falcon, although this is not trivial as the preset is quite complex.
You can automate the program volume as well, if you don't want something polyphonic though.
