Ah, I have yet another Live question!

I am having trouble with loops that are 170bpm and above. It halves the bpm making them ridiculous when live is set at a similiar speed. Not too fond of HAVING to write bits at 169 or less. Warping tends to cut the bit to 4 measures in cases of an 8 measure loop. This kinda cuts off the variations leaving me oh so sad!
Also I am dying to know how people are using midi controllers with live. I have mentioned this before but nobody seems to want to devulge that info. I have limited funds and wanna know what controller would suit as many of my needs as possible. I have an oxygen8 so that will be paired with whatever controller I rest on. I wanna be able to EQ and do filter tweaks and not get to jumbled in the process.
thanks again guys

I'm using an Evolution uc-33e with Live and so far it works great. I've got the 8 faders linked to track volumes and the pots linked to three of the sends. I'm pretty sure you can set the 4 quick presets on the uc-33e to access addditional tracks too.

I was actually looking at the uc33e but I really like that the x-session has a crossfader. I noticed they have a similiar layout. If I would be able to flip through presets swiftly then I can handle that the x-session doesn't have as many knobs.
The cross fader is important for those lovely quick cuts. I tried it on a verticle slider and it feels kinda funny. Just not right.
thanks

If you want to control an instrument with your controller, you expand the controls of the VST/AU, go into midi mode select the function and move the control you want on your controller... click on the button (midi) and it's set! Works very well, and saves the info when you reopen the song, unlike a lot of other bigtime sequencer's... I'm actually using my damn controller kybd. for a change!

You could always turn the uc33 sideways to get the horizontal sliderJohnnycarcaz wrote:The cross fader is important for those lovely quick cuts. I tried it on a verticle slider and it feels kinda funny. Just not right.

-jYou're right though, a crossfader would be really nice as would a joystick to use with the x-y controller.

Before you do anything else, just correct the "original speed" in the sample box (use the two buttons called "x2" and "/2" to double or half the speed). You can use this function only if no warp markers are set.Johnnycarcaz wrote:I am having trouble with loops that are 170bpm and above. This most probably is just the Loop/Region Marker 'staying the same' when you change the tempo of the loop. I find this annoying, too. But you simply have to correct the Loop/Region Marker's lenght to get your variations back.Johnnycarcaz wrote:Warping tends to cut the bit to 4 measures in cases of an 8 measure loop. Btw, it's all in the manual.

the fader fox looks much more fun than the x-session but doesn't have as many knobs, I am getting from the description that each part can be switched on the fly. So it may be more functional than the x-session. hmmmmmmmm
bad thing is, they don't deliver outside europe
Also It is hitting high on the dough scale! The x-session is going for less than 100USD on ebay.
Sorry guys im a complete retard when it comes to manuals. Never really know what Im looking for in them so I tend to not use them. Amazes me I have gotten this far never cracking one, except in the rare instance of needing to peek at midi controller numbers or chart sort things.
will definantly be playing with the tips tonight

I know it is hip and cool not to read manuals, but you don't even have to do that with Live. Just fold out the 'Info' view in the lower left corner and mouse-over the elements of the GUI. Excellent descriptions for most functions there!Johnnycarcaz wrote:Sorry guys im a complete retard when it comes to manuals. Never really know what Im looking for in them so I tend to not use them. ah
that was simple enough......Was kinda nice to be able to use the tons of bits I have written 170bpm and above.
DAMN THIS A.D.D!
I am pretty sure Im gonna go with the x-session for midi.
The problem I have with live, which in a way isn't really a problem, is that it does so many unexpected things. At first it was hard to even to know what to look for cause I didnt know what I wanted to do with it. Im pretty much the only person I know doing a lot of DAW work and Live PA. I was using it totally wrong for ever, and didn't "see the light" until some campmates at burning flipside busted out their laptops and showed me how they used it in their live psy-trance group. A bit different than what im doing seeing as they had two power books running live, and electronic drums and a virus. Kinda proved to me that Live is an instrument first and formost. I am sure if I didn't have a love affair with Logic It would be a possiblity that I would start sequencing tracks with live, but not ready for that jump yet.
