Give it 88 key and I will be interested. Otherwise, the akai lpk25 is still my favorite Akai keyboard:http://bit.ly/1ItkFQ0

So are people liking the feel of these? Heard a couple comments on the stiffness of the Advance boards. I played with one of the MPK boards and the feel was kind of stiff. Sounds like the Advance might be like this too. The easier the key press, the better. If it does have stiff keys, I might have weigh the pros and cons of buying it for the software.

I find them less stiff than the MAX series.
Akai has released a firmware update recently, that really improved the velocity sensitivity of the keybed. It doesn't change the keys feel, but it makes it a lot more playable.

Q: why no MIDI connector(+battery)

Good to hear. I'm going to try them out soon, but I'm hoping they are a lot less stiff and more smooth like fatar boards.

I purchased the Advance 61 and it's quite good, although I've had some problems setting up the VIP software and making it recognize my plugins. Especially, the 32 bit plugins have bothered me and I'm still working on getting it right.

The keybed is spongy and quite bad, but I expected it to be and I have a Kurzweil placed underneath for playing purposes so all is well :-)
Once everything is set up, the integration and workflow is awesome and worth the price alone. This thing really does what Akai promises and browsing presets and changing the basic parameters really is a breeze.
Plugin maps are plentiful and more are coming everyday. I love the fact that they have maps for some of the popular freeware synths too.
I've only had it for a few days and need to go deeper, but as for now, the Advance is a great controller and it will definitely change the way I work. And for the better too.

I recently stumbled upon AKAI Advance and VIP software and just don't understand how this can work. Can the software tag all you presets in all the plugins automatically? How can it figure out the sound properties on its own? :?:

If it actually works, how much time does it take and does it handle new created presets on the fly?

Yes it can! :o - but only the plugins that are actually mapped. The software comes with quite a few but some vital one are missing like Omni 2 and Wavestation. Some maps maps don't work either, at least for me. Everything Arturia just fail to load in my VIP. I have no idea why.

VIP works great for synths but stuff like Kontakt become to fiddly for my liking. Sample libraries such as Session Strings are not really meant to be controlled without the aid of a mouse imo. Drum don't make much sense either. Piano/rhodes/bass libraries are easily managed though, and so is the factory library.

I have no idea!! :D  - it build upon ZEN, the preset manager by Big Tick. That's really all I know :hihi:

I've actually grown to like the keybed more than when I bought the Advance. It's still not a stroke of genius though.

After the latest VIP update a few days ago, Wavestation and Omni 2 are included too 8)

That really sounds like an Advance with a different name. The instruments included are similar.

It is.

Awesome, I'll have to make sure I update

I did, and they both work! :tu:

I now seriously consider getting VIP keyboard. I have few questions now:

- Can you drag and drop VSTs from inside VIP directly to DAW? (Ableton in this case). This is quite important to get unified workflow for me.
- Is there a significant delay when browsing presets from different plugins and playing them?

Also there's the list of supported VSTs. Unfortunatelly Dune 2 is missing :(
